Facebook, Social Recommendation Service WhoDoYou Launches iOS App David Cohen on August 13, 2014 2:40 PM Social local search service WhoDoYou Wednesday announced the release of an iOS application, joining its website and Android app. WhoDoYou mines content and advice shared on Facebook and other social networks to provide recommendations for local businesses in the top 500 cities in the U.S. and more than 50 international markets. It uses advanced machine learning and natural language processing to parse content and deliver the most relevant results. The company said its website and Android app boast more than 500,000 users, adding that users who access the service with Facebook Login receive more personalized results culled from their friends and groups on the social network, which are unavailable via public searches and displayed only in users’ private vaults. Founder and CEO Yoav Schwartz said in a release introducing the iOS app: Because it is collected from genuine conversations between friends, the quality of the information found on WhoDoYou surpasses that of other leading review services, which are rife with bias and manipulation. WhoDoYou will appeal to millions of iOS users because it was created for regular people with busy lives who rely on friends to help them find trusted local businesses.
