Talos Energy’s $52 Million Acquisition of Whistler Energy II
Sep 27, 2018
Akin Gump advised Talos in the matter
Year to date gross production from Whistler’s assets is approximately 1,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day (“Boepd”), or net production after royalties of approximately 1,500 Boepd, of which 82 percent is oil. The purchase price was $52 million and, as part of this acquisition, Talos negotiated the release of approximately $77 million of cash collateral that had secured Whistler’s surety bonds that Talos will not need to replace. David Sweeney (Picture) and Andrew Lehman, partners in the oil and gas practice at Akin Gump, led the team representing Talos. They were joined by oil and gas partners John Goodgame and Eric Muñoz, counsel Stephen M. Boone Jr. and Jon Boben, associates Niki Roberts and Savannah Raymond, and senior practice attorney Shane Sullivan; financial restructuring senior counsel David Staber; tax partner Jocelyn Tau; and labor and employment partner Brian Patterson.
