Bain Capital Inc. said yesterday that it would seek to sell its remaining 31 percent stake in Wesley Jessen Visioncare Inc., a maker of contact lenses based in Des Plaines, Ill. Wesley Jessen's shares fell $3, to $29.875 yesterday. Wesley Jessen registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the sale of at least 4.6 million common shares held by Bain and its affiliates. The Bain group may offer as many as 5.3 million shares, or its entire stake, once the S.E.C. approves the filing. That stake is worth $158 million at today's prices. Bain, based in Boston, acquired the company from the Schering-Plough Corporation in 1995 and helped take the unit public in 1997.
