By FinSMEs Webflakes , a San Francisco, CA-based website for English readers to discover international lifestyle content from around the globe, raised $3m in Series A funding. Backers included Orens Capital, Genesis Partners and, among others: – Donald R. Katz (Founder and CEO, Audible, Inc.), – Mark Carges (CTO and SVP, Global Products, eBay), – Aayush Phumbhra (Co-Founder, Chegg), – Warren Adelman (Former CEO, Go Daddy), and – Stephen Grabiner (Former partner, Apax Partners and on the board of Times Newspapers). Led by Nathan Shuchami, CEO, Webflakes operates a web-based platform that connects International bloggers to a crowdsourced community of volunteer translators. The company donates $1 for every 500 words translated and published to global charity choosen by the translator, such as – The American Institute for Cancer Research, CARE, charity: water, Pencils of Promise, Plan International USA, and the Rainforest Alliance among others. It currently features over 60 bloggers from Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Switzerland and Peru, who are experts in a variety of lifestyle topics such as fashion, food & dining, wine, travel, relationships, architecture and design.
