MicroStockHub Online retail stocks were mostly higher on Cyber Monday as early reports indicate spending will be at least slightly higher than anticipated. Adobe Analytics updated early in the day that Cyber Monday spending could grow to as much as $12.4B this year, with usage of buy-now-pay-later services hitting an all time high of nearly $800M. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs pointed to a level of promotions that was a touch lighter than anticipated. Heading into Cyber Monday, the potential for heavy discounting in the retail sector was a concern of analysts. Notable gainers included Qurate Retail ( QRTEA ) +14.8%, Wayfair (NYSE: W ) +6.3%, Hour Loop ( HOUR ) +5.1%, Etsy (NASDAQ: ETSY ) +3.2%, Newegg Commerce ( NEGG ) +3.1%, Solo Brands ( DTC ) +1.6%, and Thred Up ( TDUP ) +1.2%. E-commerce giant Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN ) was up 1.08% to outpace the S&P 500 Index. A notable underperformer on Cyber Monday was Chewy ( CHWY ), with a swing lower of 8.77% as of 2:58 p.m. Short interest on Chewy ( CHWY ) is elevated at 16.9% of the total float. Chewy ( CHWY ) is lined up to report earnings on December 6.
