Adelaide-based IT consultancy Vintek Group has been acquired by US-headquartered managed services provider New Era Technology for an undisclosed sum. The deal also includes sibling companies Invervolve, a data centre and cloud hosting provider, and CloudCentral, a wholesale cloud services provider. In a blog post on Vintek’s website, founder Paul Vinton said New Era was looking to expand its operations in Australia and New Zealand. “[New Era] approached us as we were incredibly aligned to their offerings and value systems,” Vinton said. US-headquartered New Era also has a presence in the United Kingdom and an existing presence in Australia and New Zealand. The company also has a network operations centre in each country, as well as a US-based AV network operations centre. New Era counts Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Microsoft, Palo Alto and more as some of its vendor partners. Vinton said the acquisition won’t change much of Vintek’s operations, saying New Era was keen to engage with him and the company long-term as part of the way forward. “[The acquisition] will mean we will have access to more resources, should we desire to take on bigger projects or expand faster than we have done to date,” Vinton said,
“After 20+ years of building a great business I look forward to building an even greater business with like-minded people who share the same passions for the client. It also gives us global reach.”

Global IT services provider New Era Technology has acquired Australian systems integrator Vintek Group as part of an expansion push into the Australian and New Zealand market. New Era Technology claims over 1,200 employees in offices around the globe, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The company already has offices in Melbourne and Adelaide. According to Vintek founder Paul Vinton, the New York-headquartered IT services provider approached Vintek Group, which has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide — where it is headquartered — as part of ongoing efforts to expand its operations in the local region. Vinton said in a blog post to clients, dated 1 October, that Vintek was “incredibly” aligned to New Era’s offerings and value system. “So what changes?” he wrote. “In essence – not much! New Era [is] keen to engage with me long-term as part of the way forward, and I will keep running the businesses into the future. “It will mean we will have access to more resources should we desire to take on bigger projects or expand faster than we have done to date. After 20-plus years of building a great business I look forward to building an even greater business with like-minded people who share the same passions for the client. It also gives us global reach.”
Vinton also noted that the acquisition would not mean that Vintek’s culture would change, with staff set to remain where they are. “Our staff aren’t changing and our desires for the future and building Australian jobs doesn’t change. Your day to day interaction will stay exactly the same. I will be remaining at the helm,” he said. New Era gets a number of brands with the acquisition of Vintek. In 2019, Vintek acquired Canberra-based cloud services provider Cloud Central for an undisclosed sum. "Cloud Central was a natural fit to our business and there are definite synergies between the two companies," Vintek CEO and founder Paul Vinton told ARN at the time. In December 2017, the systems integrator acquired Sydney-based managed services provider Regal IT . At the time, the plan was to keep Regal IT's 22 staff in Sydney to grow the presence of Vintek in the area. In February 2016, Vintek acquired cloud hosting solutions provider Intervolve, also based in Adelaide. “I do want to thank you for your business (a number of you since I founded the company over 20 years ago),” Vinton told Vintek Group’s customers. “It has been your faith and support that has enabled us to go on the incredible journey that we have. Veeam names Telstra, Ingram Micro, Vintek, Blue Apache among its top Australian partners at awards night in Sydney

Veeam has revealed is top performing Australian and New Zealand partners for 2017 and named Telstra as its Australian ProPartner of the year. During an awards dinner in Sydney yesterday, Veeam's Australian and New Zealand channel sales manager Belinda Jurisic presented the Telstra with the vendor's top Australian partner title, which recognises achievements in high revenue as well as year-on-year growth. "[Telstra] continues to deliver strong growth in 2017 with a focus on complete solutions built around our key joint alliances, from Cisco, NetApp and Pure Storage," Jurisic said on the night. "A clear focus on customer outcomes combined with their reach and strategy for partnering has ensured that they are the winner this year." The awards recognised 14 of Veeam’s high-achieving ANZ partners across a number of categories. In addition to Telstra claiming the titular win, six other Australian IT companies were recognised. Adelaide managed services provider Vintek was named Veeam’s rising star ProPartner for 2017. The award recognises significant year-on-year growth in Veeam sales for a company. Veeam also singled out Datacom's Greig Ebeling as its Veeam champion of the year. Taking out Veeam’s Australian distribution partner of the year was Ingram Micro. The global distie giant also won the availability vendor’s New Zealand distribution award. Inabox Group claimed the vendor’s cloud and service provider partner rising star award, while Melbourne's Blue Apache took out the VCSP partner of the year award. Veeam's Asia-Pacific director of cloud and service providers Asanga Wanigatunga said the company's cloud business had grown 80 percent year-on-year in Australia and New Zealand, and that its VCSP business, which deals with companies working in the private cloud space, made up about 60 percent that cloud growth. "A lot of that growth has to do with the service providers that we not only signed up last year but those we've signed up in prior years who are growing," he said. Veeam also recognised outstanding work in marketing with its marketing excellence award, which went to CloudRecover's Laura Serra. Veeam Australia and New Zealand vice president Gary Mitchell congratulated the award winners. “Our partners enable us to provide data and backup solutions for so many businesses across Australia and New Zealand to ensure always-on access to these applications,” he said. "We are excited to recognise and honour these Australian and New Zealand partners with our highest achievement awards.”
Growth in Australia and New Zealand
The awards event follows updates to Veeam’s Australian and New Zealand partner program made last this year, when it introduced additional deal reg opportunities for silver, gold and platinum ProPartners, as well as bumping up the revenue requirements for its partner tiers. “The program that we have introduced is about the reward of additional margin for partners who actually go out there and identify new business customers to Veeam. We are adding the additional value of a new business opportunity,” Mitchell said. “The incentive is not just to work with us to develop and grow an opportunity but about creating new opportunities for themselves too.”
Veeam’s 2017 full-year financial results, released in January, revealed the company grew its ANZ customer count by 19 percent to 9531 customers in the region. Mitchell told CRN the plan this year was to double that growth rate of customers to about 40 percent, a plan he said would be underpinned by a few key reasons. "Our product line is expanding. It's more than just backup and replication for virtualised environments, which is where the company started. We're addressing multi-cloud environments these days, physical environments as well. We just released a product called Veeam Orchestrator that is associated with monitoring and orchestrating changes from one environment to another," he said. Mitchell also said growth would follow Veeam's updated vendor alliances initiatives with companies like HPE, which the vendor has a joint reseller agreement with. "That's really started to pay some big dividends for our partners and for ourselves around the growth of actual deals being done and pipeline being developed," he said. "The other thing that will be very significant is that we're also seeing a lot more pipeline and deals being closed higher in the enterprise." The vendor also increased its number of ProPartners in the region to 2731, while growing its ProPartner count to 51,000 worldwide.

Adelaide managed services provider Vintek will acquired Sydney-based Citrix specialist MSP Regal IT, as it pushes to grow into a national IT company. Vintek chief executive Paul Vinton said the Citrix skills brought by Regal IT would bolster both Vintek and its nationwide data centre business, Intervolve. Regal IT director Mark Gluckman will become part of the a national strategic leadership team as the company transfers to Vintek. The deal will add a “significant” Sydney presence for the Vintek group and allow the company to add enterprise remote access services to its pool of offerings. “It is all part of our strategic plan to be a $100 million business within five years,” Vinton said. The acquisition follows Vintek’s 2016 purchase of Intervolve, which operates from within seven data centre locations across Australia, and caps off a 2017 in which the company was awarded Fortinet’s partner of the year award. “We certainly don’t want to sit still,” Vinton said. “It’s imperative that we continue to innovate and grow with a combination of natural growth and strategic acquisitions. “I think there is more coming with possibly Perth and Melbourne next and we have some exciting announcements about international expansions in January."

Established in 1998, the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra boasts a collection of 2,500 portraits of prominent Australians. The gallery attracts around 450,000 people annually, with a further 80,000 visitors attending its travelling exhibitions. As an important historical repository of Australia's past, the gallery's chief operating officer Trent Birkett said that the federal government agency needed a complete overhaul of its IT environment to handle the needs of its staff and its visitors -- both online and in person. As a government agency, it is part of the gallery's mandate to digitalise its collection and make it available online. And with visits to the gallery's website now outstripping those to the physical site, Birkett told ZDNet it was important to provide online viewers with speedy access to the gallery's image library. "We're getting over half a million visits to our website each year ... by having a website with the collection available, with a fast download, it gives people that opportunity to be able to browse through the collection, read the stories, and watch some videos," he explained. The National Portrait Gallery is a standalone agency that is only three years old. Previously, its IT infrastructure was provided by another government department, but about 18 months ago, the agency providing it relinquished its responsibility. A blessing in disguise, this meant Birkett could look for a solution that also solved the gallery's heavily restricted internal environment -- they couldn't even price up food and beverages for events without asking for access to each individual site from system admins, or collaborate with third parties for exhibitions using software such as Dropbox. "It prevented us from doing a lot of the stuff we wanted to do," he said. In preparation, the gallery went to market about two years ago to find a solution that integrated all of its needs: A modern, fully-managed IT environment to digitise, store, and make available its catalogue of portraits to a wider audience. The National Portrait Gallery ended up with a hyperconverged solution, consisting of Lenovo x3650 servers in a metro cluster configuration, running virtual SAN software from DataCore . The IT infrastructure was built from the ground up with local IT consulting firm Vintek, and now hosts applications including the National Portrait Gallery's customer relationship management software, SQL/Web based apps, and file and print servers in a VMware environment. Glen Lance, Vintek ACT state manager and the project's technical lead, explained the rationale behind choosing a software-defined environment was that it reduced the number of active equipment and allowed the use of a hyperconverged platform. "We saw that the gallery used images a great deal, so it was no good giving them a slow storage solution as when people wanted to load things up it was taking ages," Lance explained. "Giving them DataCore sitting on a hyperconverged environment means that digital images are passed around the staff very quickly, they're moved to the web page quickly, and the opportunity is that if we need to upgrade it, it's just a few additional hard drives -- with the licence granted for the next five years." Although they looked at the cloud, Lance said that as the gallery is running 10GB networks to its staff -- now running on low latency, high-speed switches -- trying to download a 50GB image over the network from a public cloud would be very slow, in comparison to the speed achieved from the Metronode datacentre nearby. Lance also said the new setup gives the gallery ownership of its own environment, which it didn't have previously. Since implementing the digital framework, the National Portrait Gallery is developing iPad applications for visitors to use as they walk through the gallery. With near real-time update from the gallery's corporate environment to the applications and its website, visitors are able to walk around with an iPad and be able to have a full relationship with the gallery -- as well as a digital one -- which Birkett said isn't present at many other galleries in the country. Another positive feature from the IT overhaul included the reduction of image duplication, as well as cutting the lengthy process the gallery previously had undergo to have its images digitised, which saw the gallery send hard drives of images -- that it in turn could not access -- to a third party. The gallery ended up with duplicates in varying resolutions. After speaking with other Commonwealth agencies, Birkett said it's clear the gallery is ahead of others when it comes to a digital transformation.
