Developer of object-oriented database software and related software products which reduce time and complexity over conventional relational database software products, while integrating with existing client systems. Object-oriented software has several advantages over relational database software. Software development and processing costs are lower due to four major factors. Programmer productivity is increased because object-oriented technology allows reuse of code already written and debugged as applications change or new applications are created. Object-oriented software is easily partitioned among multiple programmers without requiring each programmer to understand what the others are doing. Complex applications like CAD, CAM, CAE, and CIM run more easily. The client/server processing model is more easy to implement. Object-oriented software processes data more quickly and efficiently. Versant also developed a series of products enabling clients to combine applications and data already in use in relational databases with applications and data from Versant's object-oriented database. This series of products will allow business to take advantage of object-oriented technology at a gradual pace. All products are designed for ease in portability across several hardware platforms including DEC, HP, IBM and Sun.
