Telecoms software specialist Amdocs saw steady growth in FY19 as telcos around the world contracted the supplier to help them upgrade their infrastructure, particularly as they transition from fourth generation (4G) to fifth generation (5G) mobile data networks (see our report 5G: Opportunities in Next Generation Mobile Networks ). The company’s global revenue expanded 4% year on year in constant currency to US$4.1bn (helped by the acquisition of network optimisation specialist TTS Wireless) with net income accelerating 35% yoy to US$479m. The outlook for FY20 looks good too. The US side of business (which accounts for almost two thirds of Amdocs’ total global turnover) was lifted by a multi-year extension to the company’s long standing collaboration with AT&T aimed at upgrading and expanding the telco’s fifth generation (5G), cloud, analytics and security infrastructure. Similar IT transformation contracts with Three in Ireland, Altice Portugal, Sky Italia, Vimpelcom in Russia and Vodafone Germany should boost Amdocs’ European revenue, up from US$572m in FY18 to US$599m in FY19 having grown to represent 15% of the total. Packaged SD-WAN solutions have grown to occupy an increasingly big part in Amdoc’s portfolio after deals with Comcast (see our report SD-WAN Builds New Service Models for Network Providers ). But it is the significant investment that telcos and mobile operators around the world are putting into 5G that we expect to really drive Amdocs’ business over the next five years.
