Trinchero Family Estates acquires organic Tequila brand

One of the world’s largest wine groups has bought organic mixer and Tequila maker Tres Agaves Products for an undisclosed sum. Trinchero Family Estates, which makes sells wine brands Sutter Home Family Vineyards, Ménage à Trois; Trinchero Napa Valley, Napa Cellars and Neyers Vineyards, has taken a majority stake in Tres Aagaves in order to cash in on soaring Tequila sales in the US,
Tres Agaves, a certified organic line of Tequilas and mixers, was founded by Barry Augus in 2008. The brand opened its first distillery in Amatitán, Mexico, in March last year. Trinchero, the world’s fourth largest wine business by volume, has managed the sales, distribution and marketing for Tres Agaves Tequila through a joint venture since 2012. According to the IWSR, global Tequila value sales are up by 13% to over £7.2 billion , making it one of the fastest-growing spirits categories. Bob Torkelson, Trinchero’s chief executive officer, said: “Based on the tremendous growth in the Tequila category, we are excited about continuing our work on the brand, and we appreciate the support of founder Barry Augus and his team throughout the duration of our partnership. “We’re proud of what we’ve built – Tres Agaves has grown 10 times since we first started selling the brand eight years ago, and we know with the reputation and quality of this brand we can expect more success.”
The brand is part of Trinchero’s spirits division, which also includes Sugar Island Rum, Hanson of Sonoma Organic Vodka, Amador Whiskey Company and Trincheri Vermouth.
