WHAT’S NEXT: Tradler with Jasper Deprez

Sep 2, 2021

The world of work is full of unsung heroes. Individuals that stick to their tasks on a daily basis. Never complaining. Never expecting praise. But these hard workers deserve to be celebrated. Recognizing the contributions of your employees can boost engagement and transform companies from places where people need to work to places where people want to work. Tradler is a Startupbootcamp alumnus that understands the power of employee recognition. Its SaaS platform provides leaders and managers with valuable insights, helping them to acknowledge daily contributions and improving satisfaction levels among their employees. In the latest episode of our What’s Next podcast series, Giovanni Vaccari talks with Jasper Deprez , founder and CEO of Tradler about the journey that the company has been on so far and the challenges that surfaced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jasper explained that he was inspired to start Tradler because of his father, a mailman for approximately 40 years before he retired. Job roles like the one performed by his father were renamed as “essential” or “frontline” workers during the pandemic, emphasizing just how important they are. Looking back to the early days of the company, Giovanni and Jasper spoke about Tradler’s time taking part in the Startupbootcamp program. Jasper explained that the program actually precipitated a marked pivot away from the travel industry towards employee engagement, working alongside Sandd, one of the corporate sponsors at Startupbootcamp. The shift in focus began with a complete erasure of the company’s existing code, followed by a new proof-of-concept, many iterations, and a new enterprise-ready platform built in around just three months. The Tradler platform has certainly been put to good use during the pandemic, with Jasper explaining how it has helped foster trust and deliver direction when remote working policies were introduced. With its computer-aided management features, Tradler helps businesses to support the performance of their workers, celebrating individuals as it does so. Jasper also spoke about how the challenges of engagement can vary by company size and industry segment. With Tradler focusing on logistics firms, as well as banking clients, the differences in how they keep workers engaged when not based in an office are particularly noticeable. In all sectors, however, it has become clear to Jasper that digital transformation has a big role to play in improving performance and reducing churn – this is an area where Tradler is already supporting businesses, recently securing a partnership with PostNL, the largest postal service in the Netherlands. Despite Tradler’s successes, Jasper still believes that persistence and resilience are the two most important qualities in a founder of a successful start-up. As Giovanni moved on to the quick-fire questions, these qualities were exemplified in the three words that Jasper said defined Tradler’s own innovation journey: “start, fail, continue.” Boosting employee engagement is hugely important but not easily achieved.
