A Fond Farewell to Ticket Cake: Celebrating Their Startup Journey

Jul 30, 2014

Jul 30, 2014 - Will Schmidt for the Las Vegas Edition In 2011, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Ticket Cake decided to step out of their office and into the spotlight for the first time. It was the start of a three year journey that took them to new heights and crucial milestones along the way. In a very bittersweet moment though, Ticket Cake recently decided that it was time end their journey and shut down day to day operations. It was hard for the team to be overly-upset though because they shared amazing memories that are worth celebrating. Founders Jacqueline Jensen, Joe Henriod, and Dylan Jorgensen started Ticket Cake in a 4 car garage that was converted into an office space in Salt Lake City, Utah. While it probably wasn’t up to code, the team did sell their first ticket out of that garage before venturing out one cold January day. The Sundance Film Festival was in full swing, and the Ticket Cake crew was not about to let the opportunity for recognition pass them up. They got friends and family on board to walk up and down the main drag to pass out 1,500 cupcakes specially made for that one moment; they told everybody to check out the site and get their tickets for the various concerts happening. It wasn’t long after when Downtown Las Vegas set their sights on Ticket Cake. In 2012 they officially moved and set up shop in The Ogden as one of the first VegasTechFund companies. Before long they closed their first round of funding. “When we closed our first round of capital we were trying to think of something fun to do in Vegas outside of the night life scene,” says Jensen. “We ultimately decided to ride the roller coaster at New York, New York.” During their tenure in Las Vegas Ticket Cake and their amazing team processed 1.7 million ticket sales, raised 2 rounds of capital, saw 320 event organizers use the site, helped 25,000 customers buy tickets, and passed out more cupcakes than they thought possible. We’re all about celebration at Tech Cocktail, and Ticket Cake cleaves to the philosophy of celebration as well. What’s cool is the manner in which they chose to celebrate their final days as Ticket Cake. “It’s important to us that we not only celebrate us, but everybody,” says Jensen. They filled their office space with Prosecco, cupcakes, local food, investors, community members, and advisors for one last hurrah. “It was important for us to have this moment to celebrate,” says Jensen. “Not just us, but the entire Vegas Tech community.” Let’s all take a moment to toast and applaud the efforts of Ticket Cake. We wish you all the best of luck as you move forward on your journey. Did you like this article? Yes No Get more delivered to your inbox just like it! Subscribe Via Email
