The company, the region’s largest law firm, has been based on the Quayside for more than 20 years, with its 420 staff currently spread over two offices. Later this year, however, the firm is bringing them together under one roof at the new Spark building at Newcastle Helix. Newcastle Helix represents a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Legal & General and Newcastle University, bringing together industry leaders, businesses, and top researchers to form an internationally renowned innovation cluster. Established in 2009, The Sphere Group was a Gauntlet Group network member before being acquired by JM Glendinning Group, which has its head office in Leeds. The business will continue to trade as The Sphere Group and retain its team of seven insurance professionals, including managing director Alan Oliver. It will move to the premises of JM Glendinning Insurance Brokers North East, at Gosforth Business Park, which has been part of the JMG Group since 2013, joining 23 JM Glendinning staff who work predominantly with SME clients in the Newcastle office. Church Point Holiday Park, Newbiggin by the Sea, which is part of Parkdean Resorts (Image: Parkdean Resorts) The Newcastle-based company, which has 66 parks around the UK, is making the spend on new accommodation, new and upgraded activities and facilities, and installing park-wide Wi-Fi to further improve customers’ experience in the continuing staycation boom. The firm, which has its head office in Gosforth, said its advance bookings are at record levels, prompting a recruitment drive for 7,000 seasonal jobs, as well as a number of full-time jobs, across sales, food and beverage, and housekeeping, to add to the 2,000 jobs created last year. Fabric Academy creates and delivers webinars and courses for marketers at all stages of their careers, to help them boost the skills needed to develop successful marketing campaigns. Set up at the beginning of the pandemic, the firm has seen more than 600 people complete its courses over the last 15 months, with candidates signing up from all over the UK and Europe, and from as far afield as the US, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand. The Fabric Academy has worked with regional fund management firm NEL Fund Managers to bring in a £45,000 North East Small Loan Fund investment, supported by the European Regional Development Fund. It will use investment to enhance its website and digital marketing activities, as well as to bring in skilled staff to help it grow. Two new jobs are expected to be created in the coming months, with more to follow as the business expands. (Image: Supplied by PragmatIC Semiconductor) PragmatIC Semiconductor - which already runs a production line at nearby NETPark - has s ecured £68m series C funding including £3.8m ($5m) from Swiss packaging company Amcor and will launch the North East manufacturing facility which is estimated to double its workforce, creating 125 highly skilled jobs by the end of this year. Work is currently under way to build the factory and commission the FlexLogIC fabrication line which expected to ramp up production to billions of circuits by 2023. The investment is PragmatIC's largest to date and the new site - called PragmatIC Park - will provide space for at least four additional production lines to support continued growth in demand for its products.
