Overfunding: Hebridean Food Co. Surpasses £60,000 Funding Goal on Crowdcube

By Samantha Hurst The Hebridean Food Company  has successfully secured its initial  £60,000 Crowdcube funding goal and has raised over £90,000 from 151 investors. The UK-based fresh soup distributor currently offers its soups and sauces in various stores, including Selfridges, Whole Foods Markets, and Aldi. As previously reported , Hebridean Food Co. revealed its products are all created to be never over processed and uses plenty of meat and packed with lots of veggies. It has worked with world class chef, Colin Bussey, to create a range of both meat and seafood soups. The distributor also shared since its soup range was launched ONLY seven months, its Mussel Chowder soup has been listed in Aldi Supermarket, and two new soups to be introduced next month. Founder and managing director of Hebridean Food Co., Douglas Stewart, recently explained why he and his team decided to using the crowdfunding method for funds: “We took this route out of sheer frustration with traditional funding mechanisms. We were rejected by the banks, but we thought we had a good idea, so we turned to a public platform to try to get the funding.” During a recent update, Stewart stated he believes the company has a chance of raising 180,000 during this funding round. He also noted the additional funds will be used to accelerate the business’ growth and development, along with bringing products to a larger audience through the UK: “Extra funding will allow us to fund a year-long PR campaign with the agency who previously exposed us to various national press articles in 2015. To add to this, the agency would be conducting a sustained brand awareness campaign through a multi-channel approach from collaborations with the UK’s top restaurants, hotels and chef’s. Finally, the agency will be looking to gain maximum exposure in the media from any new product development and launches the company will be conducting.” The campaign is set to close in two weeks.
