Tethys Research, LLC is a Bangor, ME based company that has received a grant(s) from the Department of Energy's SBIR/STTR program. The abstract(s) for these grant award(s) are provided as well since they provide insights into Tethys Research, LLC's business and areas of expertise. This project will develop processes to use the enzyme in pulp mills and forest biorefineries to produce raw materials for chemicals and biofuels. It also clones the enzyme for cost-effective large-scale production. Microorganisms that make novel enzymes to help separate wood components in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner have been developed. This project isolates one of these enzymes so that an enzyme-assisted pulping process can be designed to economically use forest biomass for chemicals and fuel.

ThermoChem Recovery International markets a gasification technology that aims to transform the pulp and paper industry into biorefineries which will not only produce paper, but also renewable energy in the form of green electric power and bio-based fuels and chemicals. TRI's gasification process converts cellulosic feedstocks (including wood chips, bark, forest residuals, agricultural waste and energy crops) into a synthesis gas ("syngas") which can be used to replace natural gas and fuel oil, and can be converted into biofuels and biochemicals. Additionally, per the company, TRI's technology is capable of recovering energy and chemicals from spent pulping liquors. TRI licenses its gasification technology, and aims to provide specialized equipment and engineering services to pulp and paper companies seeking to integrate TRI's process into their mill operations. TRI's proven technology currently is in commercial use at two mills in the U.S. and Canada.
CHEMREC gasification technology - turns pulp and paper mills into biorefineries.nCHEMREC is helping pulp and paper mills transform into Biorefineries with a unique, black liquor gasification technology. Opening up new markets in sustainable, low-carbon chemicals and fuels will be a step-change in the industry.nFull implementation of the Chemrec technology in all Swedish pulp mills would yield about 6 000 000 tons of CO2 reduction per year or roughly 10 % of current Swedish CO2 emissions while supplying 25 % of current Swedish automotive fuel consumption.nThe technology has potential to globally provide motor fuels equivalent to over 45 billion litres/year of gasoline (12 billion gallons/year).
ZeroPoint Clean Tech deploys biomass solutions to make renewable energy and sequester carbon. ZeroPoint has a modular, multi-feedstock gasification technology built to international code. The ZeroPoint solution is built with OEM components by the world's highest quality manufacturers. Skid mounted equipment is packaged into turnkey plants and delivered with leading engineering, procurement and construction firms.

Capturing Carbon Dioxide to Fuel the World The amazing technological and economic progress achieved in the past 100 years has largely been fueled by hydrocarbons. However the sustainability of this progress is now coming into question, both due to the rise in greenhouses gases caused by hydrocarbon combustion and the predicted depletion of fossil hydrocarbon sources. Sequesco's goal is to develop technologies which help enable hydrocarbons to continue fueling human progress, while alleviating the problems of greenhouse gas emissions, growing geological scarcity, and the drawbacks of agriculturally produced biofuels. The company's guiding principle is to use microbes as master chemists in sustainable systems that serve the dual role of sequestering carbon dioxide and producing transportation fuels.
New Energy Solutions has developed alternative fuel technology that includes:-Providing clean energy designed to power systems which can be fueled from renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels-Developing and integrating green energy technology concepts in the field of alternative fuels created from biomass products -Changing the outlook for biomass energy systems to further protect the company's enviroment
