Optomed and Carl Zeiss were awarded the contract through a public procurement process. The development phase is expected to last 18 months, after which the joint municipal authorities’ healthcare districts will separately decide on the system’s deployment. The five Finnish university hospitals serve approximately 60 per cent of the Finnish population (around 3.3 million people). Optomed will retain the intellectual property rights of the system, enabling its sales and productisation globally. Image: Optomed Etteplan is expanding in the Nordics by acquiring TekPartner, an engineering and IT company specialised in electronics and software in Denmark. The Danish company generated approximately eight million euros in revenue in 2019, delivering services through a combination of its team of 19 engineering professionals, a network of international project partners and over 30 freelancers in Denmark. Etteplan and TekPartner will start leveraging their expertise in software and embedded services, and later expand the collaboration to engineering and technical documentation, according to Etteplan’s CEO, Juha Näkki. Image: Etteplan The lighting designed by WhiteNight Lighting for the Tammerkoski rapids in Finnish city Tampere has won the Heritage Lighting category at the international LIT Lighting Design Awards. The lighting adorns the kilometre-long waterway in Tampere, which with its line of monumental factories and landmark buildings is one of the most iconic landscapes in Finland. The result of years of planning, the lighting was finally completed in October 2020. The LIT awards included more than 350 contenders from 42 countries this year. Aalto University has been granted three million euros under the Future Makers funding programme, the University of Eastern Finland’s professor Arto Urtti has secured 580 000 euros for his medicinal research, and a University of Vaasa-led consortium is set to receive significant EU-funding for R&D on low-carbon shipping.
