BigBasket B2B Arm’s Loss Narrows 57% To INR 177.9 Cr In FY22

Share story The operating revenue of Supermarket Grocery Supplies, the B2B arm and holding company of BigBasket, surged 39% to INR 1,707.2 Cr Total expenses shot up a little over 41% in FY22 to INR 1,924.8 Cr from INR 1,363.6 Cr in FY21 On a consolidated basis, Supermarket Grocery Supplies’ loss rose 1.9X to INR 1,040.7 Cr in FY22 BigBasket’s B2B business reported narrowing of its loss by 57.7% year-on-year (YoY) to INR 177.9 Cr in the financial year 2021-22 (FY22). As per the regulatory filing of BigBasket’s holding company and B2B arm Supermarket Grocery Supplies Private Limited, its net loss stood at INR 421 Cr in FY21. The narrowing of loss of the online grocery retailer’s B2B unit is in contrast to the 4X rise in the loss of its B2C arm to INR 812.7 Cr in FY22. However, it is pertinent to note that the B2B unit’s loss from continuing operations widened 14.4% to INR 168.6 Cr in FY22, while the major decline was in loss from discontinued operations. The loss from discontinued operations stood at INR 9.3 Cr in FY22 as against INR 273.9 Cr in FY21. In FY22, BigBasket’s B2B arm saw a 39% surge in its operating revenue to INR 1,707.2 Cr from INR 1,227.7 Cr. In comparison, the operating revenue of BigBasket’s B2C arm rose 17% YoY during the year. The B2B entity’s revenue from the sale of its grocery and other household products stood at INR 1,683.2 Cr in FY22 as against INR 1,213.4 Cr in FY21. On the other hand, it generated revenue of INR 22.9 Cr from sale of services, which largely includes advertisement income, as against INR 12.5 Cr in FY21. Recommended For You: 20th September, 2022 Bigbasket’s B2B arm earned a total revenue of INR 1,759.5 Cr in FY22 as against INR 1,240.4 in the prior fiscal year. Meanwhile, the entity’s total expenses shot up a little over 41% in FY22 to INR 1,924.8 Cr from INR 1,363.6 Cr in FY21, with the purchase of trade in goods contributing the largest to it with 86% contribution. BigBasket spent INR 1,653.4 Cr on purchase of stock-in-trade in its B2B unit as against INR 1,189.1 Cr in FY21. The next biggest contributor to the total expenses was employee benefits, which more than doubled YoY to INR 144.3 Cr in FY22 from INR 58 Cr in the previous year. BigBasket has two registered operating entities — Supermarket Grocery Supplies, the B2B arm which is the owner of the BigBasket brand, and Innovative Retail that runs BigBasket’s B2C online grocery business. On a consolidated basis, Supermarket Grocery Supplies’ loss rose 1.9X to INR 1,040.7 Cr in FY22, while the revenue grew to INR 8,561.2 Cr from INR 6,570.4 Cr in FY21. In April this year, BigBasket entered the instant delivery service with its product BBNow, and competes with quick-commerce startups like Blinkit, Swiggy, Zepto, and Dunzo.
