Edtech Studiosity mandates MacCap for buyer search

Mar 21, 2022

Share Macquarie Capital’s bankers are back in the edtech game – this time at Sydney-based Studiosity. Jack Goodman, founder and executive chair of Studiosity, has called in Macquarie Capital to test investor appetite in his business. It is understood MacCap’s TMET bankers are introducing Studiosity to private equity firms and strategic players for a growth capital funding rounding expected to take place in coming months. Studiosity is said to have an open mind as to what the funding could look like, with founder and executive chairman Jack Goodman and his fellow shareholders willing to part with a controlling stake. [Goodman founded the business nearly 20 years ago]. Studiosity runs a platform with tutors who give students feedback on writing, referencing and citations, and runs their work through plagiarism software. The group sells its software to education providers, including universities, who pass it on to students. It has university partners globally. Advertisement Studiosity is understood to be making about $25 million a year in revenue, although reckons it could be substantially more should it have the funding to pursue identified areas of growth. That’s where MacCap’s bankers come in. Their job is to convince an incoming investor that Studiosity has the ability to step up as a major player in the education-technology sector globally. The discussions come 12 months after Studiosity raised $10 million in venture capital/PE funding from investors including Seek Group’s Online Education Services and CVC Emerging Companies Fund. It’s no surprise to see MacCap on the ticket. The silver doughnut has popped up on a handful of edtech deals in recent years, including selling Five V Capital backed Education Perfect (which went to KKR offshore) and listing Keypath Education International on the ASX boards last year.
