Stellaris Corporation was founded in 2005 by Jim Paull and Lee Johnson. The company focuses on innovating and bringing to market new solar power technologies that can help accelerate the mass adoption of renewable energy by making it more affordable, versatile, effective and attractive. Centering its product development on concepts conceived of and patented by Jim Paull, Stellaris is taking a complete system approach to the design and engineering of solar photovoltaic modules and building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) products. Based on the companys proprietary Optica„ technology, Stellaris initial product, ClearPower„ solar modules, are the first and only see-through low concentration PV modules. The designs 3x concentration reduces expensive PV material requirements by two thirds, decreasing overall module cost while offering the simplicity of no tracking or moving parts. The products see-through feature allows the modules to blend into the surrounding architecture. When incorporated into skylights and curtain walls, the design allows useful day lighting of the interior space, decreasing interior electrical lighting demand. Stellaris won first place at the MIT Enterprise Forums 2006 Ignite Clean Energy Competition. The company has also been lauded by the Wall Street Journal and Wired Magazine. Now headquartered in Billerica, MA, Stellaris raised a series A venture round in 2007 from leading European clean tech investors.
