FUELING YOUR MIND FOR THE ADVENTURES AHEAD You are here: Mercedes-Benz opened a new factory in North Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday and provided pricing and other details about the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter commercial vans that will be manufactured there. The U.S. version of the all-new 2019 Sprinter van and sibling Freightliner Sprinter model includes the first-ever gasoline model. The vans are equipped with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder engine or the new 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The new vans will also have a new generation of safety features, updated interior and exterior designs and increased storage options. The Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX , a new bundle of connectivity services and navigation software, will be offered in both Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter models. MBUX is based on artificial intelligence and can be operated by voice control, touchscreen, touchpad and touch-control buttons on the steering wheel. With natural language capabilities it will respond to verbal cues of “Hey, Mercedes” or “Hey, Sprinter.”   The new 2019 Sprinter van. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter gasoline-powered cargo van starts at $33,790. The pricing of other gasoline-powered models is: Crew Van, $41,290 Cab Chassis, $39,790 The 2019 vans are offered with a 170-inch wheelbase; 234-, 274- and 290-inch overall lengths and 80-inch width. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine has 190 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel has 190 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. (Photo: Jerry Hirsch/ Standard features include keyless start, hold function, USB ports on dashboard, all-season tires, adjustable steering wheel, shift paddles and front, side thorax-pelvis and window airbags. Load compartment volumes range up to 533 cubic feet. Optional features include heated windshield, automatic climate control, electrically operated sliding door and step and power-adjustable front seats. Reclining seats are offered in the passenger van as are heated and pivoting “luxury” seats. All-wheel drive is optional The new vans offer a lengthy list of active safety and driver-assistance systems. Among the highlights are blind-spot assist, active lane-keeping assist, park assist, traffic sign assist and crosswind assist. Attention assist gives the driver visual and audible warnings if it detects driver inattention or drowsiness. Distance regulation enables the driver to set a following distance that the van will then maintain. Active brake assist with cross-traffic function continuously checks the safe distance to the vehicle immediately in front and autonomously brakes the vehicle to a full stop if required.
