Days after announcing its buy of Chicago-based rival Sportvision , Durham on-screen sports graphics innovator SMT has disclosed a $13.8 million stock fundraise. Company CEO and founder Gerard Hall said Friday that the funder is connected to the recent acquisition, but is not reflective of the purchase price. The investment was financed through a minority round investment by Eldridge Industries, Vicente Capital Partners and Hall personally, he says, declining to comment further on the funder. The company has not released the financial terms of its Sportvision buy which, according to Hall, puts the firm in line to do on-screen graphics for at least the next several Super Bowl events . It’s the second funder for SMT, which last raised equity financing in 2010, then a $12.5 million round. This latest raise came from three investors, according to a securities filing, with the first sale happening October 3. SMT is perhaps most famous for its yellow-line technology, which helps fans keep track of what’s happening on the field during football broadcasts.
