Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been removed from Football Manager 2022, following the release of the updated Main Winter Update database. On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Sports Interactive confirmed the release of the Main Winter Update for Football Manager 2022, with players now able to use an updated database (22.3.0) for their new save games, which features all of the updated transfers around the world, attribute changes, game fixes and much more. In the new FM22 database, Manchester United striker Greenwood does not appear. "Any player or official serving an indefinite suspension from football, for whatever reason, has been removed from Football Manager in the latest update," A Sports Interactive spokesperson told Manchester Evening News. "If and when that suspension is lifted, the player or official will be reinstated at the next scheduled opportunity." EA Sports removed Greenwood from FIFA 22 on February 1, 2022, following the release of a database update, which removed the forward from the popular football simulation gaming title completely in offline modes, FIFA 22 Ultimate Team packs and FIFA 22 Ultimate Team drafts. But, Greenwood's FUT 22 player item can still be bought and sold via the game mode's internal transfer market system. "Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22 and has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packs and Ultimate Draft." An EA Sports spokesperson told Manchester Evening News. Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on January 30 following allegations he was violent towards a woman. He was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill, before being released on bail on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. A statement from GMP said: "A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation." United have confirmed that the 20-year-old will not be training or playing for the club until further notice. After initially suspending their relationship with the forward, Nike has also confirmed that their partnership with him has ended. Manchester United football club were renamed ‘Manchester UFC’ or ‘Man UFC’ from FM22, following the resolution of a trademark dispute between the club and Sega. Following damaging defeats against rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure. United signed three world-class talents in the summer, with defender Raphael Varane, winger Jadon Sancho and legendary forward Cristiano Ronaldo joining the club, which gave fans hope that a genuine Premier League title challenge could be on the cards in 2021/22, particularly after their second-place finish last season. However, after just 11 league matches, United sit in sixth place, having won five, drawn two and lost four, including humbling defeats and performances against historic rivals Man City and Liverpool. Football Manager 2022, the latest release in Sports Interactive's mega-popular Football Manager series of games, is out now. Football Manager (FM) is the world’s leading football management simulation title. With more than 50 countries to manage in and a database of over 800,000 players and staff, it offers an incredibly detailed and immersive experience. Such is the size, detail and accuracy of the game's vast database, football clubs all over the world have taken advantage of its data to look at potential signings or even specific attributes. For example, back in 2008, David Moyes' Everton signed an exclusive deal with Sports Interactive to make use of the Football Manager database for recruiting purposes. Read More
"When I played for Man U, I relaxed by playing Football Manager," revealed Solskjaer, speaking to Dagbladet in 2013. "It's a fantastic game, I have learned a lot about football. I have learned a lot about players, especially young talent. "It resembles real life, when it comes to who will be good players. They have done incredible research. "I remember thinking the same then, that I do as a manager, you want to give young guns the chance, see them develop. "You could push a few buttons and get extra millions to buy a player. Following a recent legal trademark dispute, in which Manchester United sued Sports Interactive and Sega for allegedly infringing its trademark by using the club’s name “extensively throughout the game”, Sports Interactive and Sega confirmed in June 2021 that both parties have agreed a settlement to amicably resolve their trademark dispute, with a Sega spokesperson telling MEN Sport that they have agreed to rename Manchester United on Football Manager games to 'Man UFC', starting with their upcoming release, FM22. However, during the long legal process, it was also revealed that United's scouting and data analytics teams have actually used the FM database for scouting and research purposes. “Further, the claimant’s staff working in the data analytics and scouting teams have contacted SI on various occasions asking for access to the Football Manager database for scouting and research purposes," said Roger Wyand QC in May 2020, representing the defendants Sports Interactive and Sega. He added: "Copies of the game have also been sent by SI to a number of officials and players at the [club] for a number of years and there have been a number of positive press comments and tweets about the game by them”. It's difficult to say just how big an impact Football Manager has had in United's data analytics and scouting during Solskjear's tenure, but according to those remarks, it's suggested that the FM database has been used in some capacity. As for Solskjaer, his comments back in 2013 certainly suggest that he used Football Manager, and its vast database, to help formulate his long-term plan at United, particularly in regards to his comments about young talent at the club. So what does the FM22 database tell us about the United squad? Well, quite a bit actually. Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek of Manchester United
For example, new signing Sancho is the fifth-best player at the club based on pure ability according to FM22, and his successful integration into the team could surely make a big difference to the side's fortunes. And, Cristiano Ronaldo's work rate attribute is only eight out of 20, meaning a high press tactic wouldn't work, should the forward be in the team. Then there's Donny van de Beek, who has been frozen out of the United side by Solskjaer, with the midfielder boasting 15 out of 20 for both passing and vision on FM22, technical attributes only bettered by Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in the squad. But apart from his obvious creativity, the Dutchman also boasts impressive work rate (17/20), teamwork (16/20), stamina (16/20), determination (15/20), movement (15/20), composure (14/20) and finishing (14/20). United could really do with a player who has these sort of attributes right now. With Solskjaer under more pressure than ever at United, the Norweigan could use the data available in FM22 to his advantage, and it might even help save his job. Read More

Sports Interactive has released the latest title in the Football Manager series, Football Manager 2022 (FM22). Football Manager 2022 introduces a host of new features for players to get to grips with, including a brand new data hub, innovative tactics and new player roles. Football Manager 2022 is also available to play on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One now, with the game available on the Xbox Game Pass, after a successful debut on console last year. Football Manager fans have been able to get hands-on with the new game prior to the game's official release today, as players who pre-ordered the game received access to an early beta version of the game. The club claimed this “deprives the registered proprietor of its right to have the club crest licensed”. Sega and Sports Interactive said that the use of the club’s name is “a legitimate reference to the Manchester United football team in a football context” and has been used in Football Manager and its predecessor Championship Manager since 1992 “without complaint by the claimant”. In their written defence to United’s claim, Sega and Sports Interactive said: “The claimant has acquiesced in the use by the defendants of the name of the Manchester United football team in the Football Manager game and cannot now complain of such use." Following the trademark settlement, a Sega spokesperson told MEN Sport that they have agreed to rename Manchester United on Football Manager games, starting with their upcoming release, FM22. "From FM22 onwards, the Manchester United football club will be named ‘Manchester UFC’ or ‘Man UFC’," A Sega Spokesperson told MEN Sport. "These name changes have been made purely to settle the dispute on a no admissions basis. "SEGA and Sports Interactive maintain that they do not need a licence to use the ‘Manchester United’ name but have made the change as a gesture of goodwill so that both parties can move on." Brand new animation engine
The previous FM animation engine actually tied players to the 2D discs that formed the basis of our switch from the 2D to 3D view, restricting real-life movement and motion. But the new FM22 engine is built around the new addition of root motion, which means that the players move off those 2D discs, and the 3D model movement is instead now based on the animation of their skeleton, allowing for much more realistic movements. The match AI in FM22 has taken another step forward with a suite of upgrades that make them the most intelligent in the series’ history. Sports Interactive has rebalanced the way that the length and difficulty of a pass affects the accuracy so, for example, long-range through balls will have less chance of finding their target. The way under-hit and overhit passes look in the match is also significantly improved. Errors have also been applied to first touches for the first time, so it’ll be more obvious when players have overhit or mistimed their first touch. This all leads to a more realistic representation of how possession and momentum shifts over the course of a match. The changes made to accuracy and inaccuracy go hand-in-hand with the overhaul to the pressing system in FM22. If your players are pressing too hard and lacking condition during a match as a result then you’ll see your team making more inaccurate passes, taking heavier first touches and making more errors. It’s worth bearing that in mind when you’re setting up your tactical system and making your second half substitutions as forcing your team to cover plenty of ground in the first half can have consequences as the clock ticks down to the final whistle. Innovative Tactics
Football Manager 2022 is set to add a new player role, allowing players to be more innovative with their tactics and team set-ups. The teaser trailer released earlier this year shows the addition of a new player role in defence, with players now able to set central defender to a 'wide centre-back position', as shown in the screenshot below. New player roles feature in FM22. The description for this player role says, "the main job of the Wide Centre-Back position is to stop the opposing attackers from playing and to clear the ball from danger when required. However, unlike standard central defenders, the Wide Centre-Back is encouraged to stay wide in possession and support the midfield more like a fullback." This will completely change your playstyle in FM22 and allow for more creativity as a manager. New Data Hub - Match Momentum/Passing Charts
One thing FM is famous for is the sheer quantity of data available for players to make informed decisions when it comes to tactics and transfers. FM22 will feature a brand new 'Data Hub', giving players the ability to analyse previous match data in more depth than ever before. The brand new Data Hub features a 'key findings' tab. The Match Momentum screen shows the 'danger of possession' across both the first and second half of the match, whilst the new Passing Chart will every pass your team made throughout the game. The new data window will give players suggestions on what to adjust or keep the same in the next match, along with a new 'key findings' window that gives managers a short summary of where to improve ahead of the next fixture. Create headlines on Deadline Day
The trailer teased a rework to the transfer window in FM22, specifically on deadline day, giving players the ability to simulate forward in shorter periods of time, allowing players to make smarter decisions and steal the headlines with a last-minute signing. The in-game transfer system will be reworked to be more flexible
Many clubs will start with smaller transfer budgets and have to sell players in order to sign players
Some clubs will have to focus on reducing squad size and wage bills
Fantasy Draft revamp
The Fantasy Draft game mode was first introduced in Football Manager 2016, bringing a new way to play the game for the first time by drafting a dream squad and challenging your mates. Every year since then, we’ve added to it, improving the mode step-by-step. Fantasy Draft has been revamped in FM22. FM22 includes a raft of new features in the Fantasy Draft game mode including some frequently requested features from the community. The winners of the fifth UK GamesIndustry.biz Best Places To Work Awards have been revealed. The event is all about making the games industry a better place to work, and the awards themselves are decided by an in-depth survey of employees. Revealed during a special 42-minute online ceremony (which you can check out below), there were 20 UK Best Places winners, and a series of special winners. Harinder Sangha from Sumo Leamington was crowned the UK Best Boss, while Creative Assembly's Emma Smith won the G into Gaming Award for her work in supporting diversity in the games business. During the event we also featured top tips on attracting diversity and supporting the mental health of your teams. There were also special guests presenters, including Ukie's Dr Jo Twist and industry legend Ian Livingstone. The highest scoring small companies (10 - 50 staff) are: Failbetter Games, Ico Partners, Indigo Pearl, Mojiworks, No Code, Red Kite Games, Ripstone and Snap Finger Click. The best mid-sized companies (50 - 200 employees) are: Criterion, d3t, Electric Square, Hutch, Lab42, Space Ape Games and Studio Gobo. And the top large companies (200+) are: Creative Assembly, Double Eleven, NaturalMotion, Playground Games and Sports Interactive. All 20 winners went through the Best Places To Work Awards process. In order to take part, they had to fill in an employer form that asked questions around pay, holiday, benefits, social activity, and lots more. This is marked by our team and was worth 25% of their final score. The bulk of the awards are based on an employee survey. We sent over 50 statements to staff for them to agree or disagree with. The survey covered numerous topics including working environment, work/life balance, management, diversity and more. This was worth 75% of the final score.
