The Jewellery Quarter firm has appointed Sam Bacon, Liberty Mason and Harry Wilkins, all of whom are recent graduates from Birmingham City University. The move is part of the agency's mission to hire three new graduates every year and these latest additions to the team take the payroll to 21 staff members. Also joining the team earlier this year was Mell Russon from School of Code as a junior front end developer. The new recruits are working on Cake's Birmingham-based retail brands such as 304 Clothing, P&Co and Love Logs. In other appointment news, Wolverhampton-based Spillard Safety Systems has appointed Craig Flowers as operations director - the first time a non-family member has become part of the company's board. From left: Caroline Dunn from BCRS Business Loans, Neelam Mall from Simpson Millar, Craig Atkin from Optilan, Steve Mogano from Pertemps and Craig Flowers from Spillard Spillard makes vehicle safety equipment and says the appointment of Mr Flowers is to support its plans to hit £10 million in turnover next year as demand increases for its systems. Mr Flowers, who started as a heavy plant fitter apprentice in 1998, has significant experience in a number of high-level management roles in the aggregates and transport industries. "Our business is growing at such a rate that we recognised the need for additional board level experience and Craig will bring a new eye for detail and new processes to the company," said finance director Craig Spillard. Recruitment agency Pertemps Network Group has promoted Steve Mogano to the role of group finance director. He has worked for the Warwickshire-based business since 2004, most recently as finance director of the Pertemps arm of the company. Mr Mogano began his career as an accountant in Birmingham in the 1980s after studying at the London School of Economics and, after a brief spell working in Toronto, came back to the UK to join KPMG. Law firm Simpson Millar has welcomed Neelam Mall to its family law team. Fluent in Hindi and Punjabi, she has particular expertise dealing with emergency applications to prevent removal of children from England and Wales and international family law matters. The solicitor is based in Sutton Coldfield and is the 13th new hire within Simpson Millar's family law team in 2021, with further growth planned in the coming months. Alternative finance provider BCRS Business Loans has expanded its leadership team. Caroline Dunn has joined the 17-strong firm in Wolverhampton as finance director after Stephen Deakin stepped up to the role of chief executive last year. She has more than 15 years of experience working in finance, including senior positions at automotive suppliers and packaging manufacturers. BCRS Business Loans delivered £13.3 million last year after pledging its support to businesses affected by the pandemic in the West Midlands. Financial services firm Mazars has appointed Jenny Birch as an audit partner in its Birmingham team. Ms Birch has joined from PwC and will focus on growing the Midlands practice, with a particular emphasis on the firm's existing and future public interest entity clients. She has experience of audit work with a broad range of large corporate and listed clients, together with global private and private equity-backed businesses in the Midlands over the last 20 years. She joins other recent partner hires in Birmingham - Elisa Howe, also in the audit team, and Jim Dolan from the tech and digital division. He steps up from his previous post of engineering manager in which he was responsible for overseeing the company's design and build activities. In his new role, Mr Atkin will run its global engineering function but will now also focus on the development of its technology portfolio which has been identified as a key strategic area of growth for the firm. Prior to joining Optilan, he held various management positions within E.on and has more than 20 years of industrial experience, across the power and renewable sectors industries in both operations and maintenance and large-scale projects.
