John Thornton joined Austin Ventures in 1991 and serves as General Partner. His investment focus is in the early-stage software sector. Previously, John was with McKinsey & Co., where he served clients in the U.S. and Europe.
John received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and his BA summa cum laude from Trinity University, where he graduated first in his class. He previously served on the Boards of Directors for Ballet Austin, the Austin Museum of Art, and the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas. He is a founding board member of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas and a former trustee of Trinity University. In 2009, John founded the Texas Tribune, the nation’s first statewide nonprofit and nonpartisan online news organization.
Ravi Mohan has focused his entire career on the software business. Prior to co-founding Shasta, Ravi was a general partner at Battery Ventures, where he led eight investments and served on the boards of 12 software and technology-enabled service companies. Before that, Ravi built transaction-processing systems at Accenture, sold and implemented software applications for Hyperion Software Corp. and ran MIC, a software development firm based in India focused on selling business-intelligence solutions to multinational corporations. Ravi also spent time at McKinsey & Co. working with consumer- packaged goods companies.
Stephen J. Harrick joined IVP in October 2001 and has 21 years of venture capital experience. He focuses on investing in later-stage technology companies with exceptional growth potential. Specifically, Steve targets enterprise infrastructure, security, data analytics and disruptive consumer-focused companies which have the potential to become leaders in their respective markets. He enjoys working closely with committed entrepreneurs to help create businesses that are both respected and revolutionary. Steve was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 100 venture capitalists in the world by his inclusion in the Midas List three times.
Steve led IVP's investments in Aerohive Networks (HIVE), AlienVault (T), Anomali, AppDynamics (CSCO), Aster Data (TDC), Ayasdi, Business.com (DEXO), Cyence (GRWE), eHealth (EHTH), Eucalyptus Systems (HPQ), LegalZoom, MarkMonitor (TRI), MySQL (ORCL), Personal Capital, Spiceworks, Sumo Logic, Teros (CTXS), and Tripwire (Thoma Bravo). He was actively involved in IVP's investments in ArcSight (HPQ), Buddy Media (CRM), Danger (MSFT), HashiCorp, MuleSoft (MULE), Pure Storage (PSTG), and Yext (YEXT).
Before joining IVP, Steve worked for the Internet Capital Group (ICG). As Vice President of Acquisitions, his responsibilities included identifying and executing strategic acquisitions, generating partner company liquidity, and providing strategic and operational advice to management teams. Prior to ICG, Steve worked for Highland Capital Partners in Boston, Massachusetts. At Highland, his focus on Internet technologies and software led to several successful investments and Steve’s experience in venture capital investing on both the East and West Coast allows him to provide valuable guidance to management teams within IVP's portfolio.
Before entering the venture capital industry in 1997, Steve worked in Business Development for Netscape Communications in Mountain View, California and in Mergers and Acquisitions for Morgan Stanley in New York, New York.
Steve earned a B.A. in History from Yale University, where he was a Varsity wrestler, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He resides in Menlo Park, California with his wife, Jennifer and their two children.
