No Comments The end of the year is particularly promising for the Belgian space sector. Because after the salvo of contracts garnered by AMOS, it is the turn of Spacebel, a SOGEPA participating company, to announce good news and in particular a contract awarded by the ESA (European Space Agency) to build a ground infrastructure of reception of data collected by the Altius stratosphere observation mission. To Redu This infrastructure will be located in Redu in the province of Luxembourg and will process the data received from the Altius microsatellite instruments, which will then be distributed to the various users. As a reminder, Altius is a component of the European “Earth Watch” program and Belgium is its main contributor (up to 94%). Altius is dedicated to the operational monitoring of stratospheric ozone profiles. In detail, Altius will detect the composition of the atmosphere and changes in the stratospheric ozone layer. The satellite will also measure greenhouse gas emissions, but also other traces of atmospheric gases such as aerosols which affect the quality of the air on Earth. Launch in 2023 Altius will carry out a mission lasting at least 3 years, the objective of which is to provide a rapid response to the very impending shortage of satellites responsible for monitoring the components of our atmosphere. The launch of Altius is already scheduled for 2023. It will be put into orbit from the Guyanese space center (CSG) in Kourou. .
