Jun 24, 2020

Unsplash All the daily Finnish business news that works: Neste, Rapid Tampere, Rightware, Rovio, Very Finnish Problems, Soil Scout, and Finnish travel industry make headlines. Neste innovates with McDonald’s for renewable diesel, Rapid Tampere brings high tech startups to Tampere, Rightware and LG collaborate on the new Cadillac Escalade, Rovio and Very Finnish Problems help launch Duolingo in Finnish, Soil Scout finds worldwide golf partner, and Finnish travel industry goes virtual. Finnish company Neste has entered into a circular economy partnership with McDonald’s and HAVI in the Netherlands. The collaboration will see McDonald’s restaurants in the country recycling the used cooking oil from French fries into Neste’s renewable diesel, which will fuel the HAVI trucks that deliver goods to McDonald’s. Neste’s renewable diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent over the fuel’s lifecycle compared to fossil diesel. The used cooking oil will be converted into renewable fuel at Neste’s Rotterdam refinery. Neste The Rapid Tampere collaboration programme based in Finnish city Tampere will open a new application round for high technology companies globally in August. The programme was successfully initiated in 2019 with almost 350 applications from 46 different countries, and resulted in new collaborations between technology and industrial companies. The first time around, Tampere-based industrial companies Kalmar, Sandvik, Valmet and Caruna collaborated with innovative startups to create solutions to strategic challenges in their respective industries. The programme offers both a growth platform for the participating companies, as well as supports the entire business ecosystem in the Tampere region and beyond. Laura Vanzo Finnish company Rightware has collaborated with LG Electronics to develop an industry-first curved OLED display for the new 2021 model Cadillac Escalade. The new luxury SUV comes with a seamless OLED screen with a 38-inch wide display that incorporates a wide array of controls and features for an advanced human-machine interface (HMI) experience. Rightware’s designers in Seoul and Detroit worked closely with LG Electronics on the design and implementation of the Escalade’s instrument cluster, control panel, infotainment screen, and head-up display (HUD). The Escalade’s HMI also features a rich graphical control application for the advanced-comfort front seats, which was created with Rightware’s Kanzi family of software. General Motors The popular language app Duolingo has launched its Finnish course with the help from Angry Birds creator Rovio and Joel Willians , behind the Very Finnish Problems brand. Willians is driving a playful campaign on language platform to find the ‘happiest word in the world’, a nod to the rankings that consistently find Finns to be the happiest bunch on the planet. Rovio, meanwhile, is supporting Duolingo’s gamified approach to language learning. Duolingo said that Finnish was the ‘most requested language ever’ and its target audience are the 500 000 people living in Finland who don’t speak Finnish natively, as well as millions of people around the world ‘who love Finnish culture’ and may one day travel here. Duolingo Finnish company Soil Scout behind a wireless underground soil monitoring solution has announced a new equal distribution partnership with US-based GreenSight, a company providing autonomous aerial intelligence services for golf courses. The collaboration provides greenkeepers with an unparalleled above-and-below ground view of their golf courses and valuable insights to keep the greens in perfect shape. The equal partnership will see Soil Scout act as a reseller of the GreenSight TurfCloud product line in Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, while GreenSight will act as Soil Scout’s distributor in the US.
