LundeenHelping raise money for Relay For Life is the sale of luminaries and T-shirts. The luminaries will be on display at Relay For Life on Friday at Lions Field. The combined effort will take place at Lions Field in North Augusta, to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. According to www.acsevents.org , “The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and take action to finish the fight once and for all.” Locally, Kristin Bodkin heads up the Relay effort with a team of volunteers who have put on the event at North Augusta and Midland Valley high schools in the past few years. “We are here to promote awareness and raise funds for education, research, advocacy and scholarships,” Bodkin said. “It’s always a special event. We have cancer survivors there, we hear a message and have a lot of fun.” On Friday, a week before Relay For Life North Augusta/Midland Valley, a group of volunteers held a block party at the SnoCap. The party featured shirt sales from previous Relays, face painting, sidewalk art and the purchase of luminaries. The SnoCap also donated a percentage of sales to Relay For Life. “We really want to thank the SnoCap for working with us,” Bodkin said. “Not only did they donate money to the cause, but they gave us a way to get out information on Relay For Life and to reach the community.” Relay For Life North Augusta/Midland Valley will take place from 6 p.m. until midnight Friday at Lions Field, 619 W. Buena Vista Ave. T.J. Lundeen is a reporter for The North Augusta Star. Follow him on Twitter @lundeentj for more updates. Most Popular
