Silverchair stars splashes $3.2m on Mid North Coast acreage

Sep 19, 2022

JL Copy CHRIS Joannou has officially put down roots on the Mid North Coast with the purchase of an acreage just north of Coffs Harbour. The main house at the Sapphire Beach property purchased by ex-Silverchair star Chris Joannou. The bass player, who rose to fame as a teenager in the 1990s playing in Newcastle rock band Silverchair alongside frontman Daniel Johns and drummer Ben Gillies, paid $3.2 million for the luxury property which includes a heated swimming pool, a guest house and a 10-car garage. The four-hectare property is one of the most expensive ever sold at Sapphire Beach and boasts two residences, with the single-level main house comprising four bedrooms, three living areas, three bathrooms and a gourmet kitchen with high ceilings that flows out to an undercover alfresco area and the pool. Parking is not a problem on the property with sheds, garages and carports offering enough space to house up to 20 cars. The move comes after Joannou sold his three-bedroom family home in the Newcastle suburb of Carrington last month at auction for an undisclosed amount believed to be upwards of $1.6 million. At the time of listing the property, which he purchased for $671,000 in 2014, Joannou told The Newcastle Herald that he was moving north to be closer to his wife Karissa's family. The musician also offloaded Newcastle West bar and restaurant The Edwards, which he part-owned with his parents David and Sue, in May for more than $4 million. Share
