Adrian Fortino leads Mercury’s Midwest office in Ann Arbor, MI. Adrian focuses on developing and originating software and science-based investment themes and startup opportunities. Prior to joining Mercury, Adrian was the Managing Director of Detroit Innovate, a seed stage investment fund targeting seed investments in enabling technologies in healthcare, transportation and industrial applications. During this time, Adrian was also the Managing Director of the First Step Fund, a micro-investment, industry agnostic fund focused on seed-stage companies in Southeast Michigan. Prior to Detroit Innovate and the First Step Fund, Adrian co-founded three software companies: ShepherdIS, Sidecar and FlockTAG. ShepherdIS is a fleet management software platform for the livery industry. Sidecar is an instant rideshare marketplace connecting drivers and riders in metropolitan areas. FlockTAG provides consumer behavior prediction tools to independent small businesses through a novel analytics platform. Prior to founding startup companies, Adrian was the Manager of Powertrain Development with Ricardo, a global engineering consultancy focusing on the automotive, cleantech, military and industrial sectors.
Dan Fishback was the President and Chief Executive Officer of DemandTec, Inc., a provider of a cloud-based collaborative optimization network for retailers and consumer products companies from 2001 to 2013 that was acquired in 2012 by International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). From 2000 to 2001, Mr. Fishback served as Vice President of Channels for Ariba, Inc., a provider of solutions to help companies manage their corporate spending. Before that, he held sales and executive leadership positions at Trading Dynamics and Hyperion Software. Mr. Fishback currently serves on the board for several private technology companies including Conversica, Moogsoft, and Chairman of the Board of Prevedere. He is also a board member for public-traded Teradata.
Mark P. Jacobsen, Managing Director. Mark has over 20 years of experience advising companies and entrepreneurs. He has significant investment and board experience, along with extensive deal-making expertise and executive-level operational experience. Mark was a co-founder of O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures in 2005. Mark is currently a board member of AMEE, CollabNet, Instructables, O'Reilly Media and TripIt, and a board observer of Chumby Industries and Acquia.</br></br>Mark joined O'Reilly Media in 1995 and, as Executive VP for New Ventures and Business Development, managed its investment portfolio for nine years. While at O'Reilly, he also had extensive operational experience including managing two startup companies, and overseeing O'Reilly's conferences business, as well as responsibility for most business development and strategic relationships. Prior to joining O'Reilly Media, Mark was the Business Affairs Director at Colossal Pictures, an animation studio in San Francisco. Mark was also a partner at Mandel, Buder & Jacobsen, representing many small and medium size companies, and an associate at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Mark holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. from St. Olaf College.
