Heat Map: 5 Top Microelectronics Startups Using our StartUs Insights Platform , covering 1.116.000+ startups & emerging companies, we looked at innovation in the field of electronics. For this research, we identified 139 relevant solutions and picked 5 to showcase below. These companies were chosen based on a data-driven startup scouting approach, taking into account factors such as location, founding year, and technology among others. Depending on your specific criteria, the top picks might look entirely different. The Global Startup Heat Map below highlights 5 startups & emerging companies developing microelectronics solutions. Moreover, the Heat Map reveals regions that observe a high startup activity and illustrates the geographic distribution of all 139 companies we analyzed for this specific topic. Click to download Microtek – Drug Delivery Mechanism The rise in air pollution directly results in an increase in diseases that affect the regular breathing rate in humans. These include respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and other pulmonary disorders. Technological advancements in medicine and pharmaceuticals, along with innovative engineering capabilities, offer treatments precise drug delivery systems for pulmonary diseases. The US-based bioengineering startup Microtek is working on a novel self-expandable intratracheal drug delivery device. The startup’s Nebulizing Catheter, μIT Catheter, delivers drugs directly to the lungs with the help of microelectronics. The nebulizer distributes the drug evenly across the lungs to dose a maximum possible surface area. This solution aims to improve the early-stage drug development process for respiratory drugs and help advance therapeutics towards regulatory approval. Duet Microelectronics – Microfabrication Microelectronics based on III-V semiconductors, such as indium phosphide (InP) and indium arsenide (InAs), find numerous applications in high-performance optoelectronic devices. Their superior electronic properties include high electron mobility, direct bandgap, and low exciton binding energy. Startups develop microelectronics solutions for telecom companies that increase the performance of new technologies, including for fifth-generation (5G) wireless. The US-based startup Duet Microelectronics fabricates integrated circuits (IC), modules, and 3D sub-assembly products for the telecommunication industry. The startup leverages III-V semiconductors and its related process technologies to manufacture high-performing devices that operate from a few megahertz to terahertz frequencies. As a result, telecom network operators and infrastructure industry players benefit with reduced costs. Sheba Microsystems – Microactuators Accelerometers, gyroscopes, and cameras in smartphones all use microelectronics technology to function properly. The use of micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) microactuators in smartphones include portrait-to-landscape display orientation to improve viewing and gaming experiences. Startups also design microactuators to ensure high-quality image stabilization and autofocus for smart devices. Canadian startup Sheba Microsystems creates MEMS-based optical solutions including autofocus, optical image stabilization, and magnification for miniature camera systems. The Sheba µPistons technology fabricates thousands of micro-size pistons and tubes, within a small area, that interact and generate enough force to manipulate large masses within a structure. The microactuators also allow for sharp and high-quality photos in smartphone cameras that consume low power, even in low-light settings. Vervesemi – Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Microelectronics are part of personal computers, smartphones, fax machines, televisions, microwave ovens, and even calculators. Important industries from healthcare and aerospace to energy and defense are building several applications with microelectronics. Emerging companies are developing innovative semiconductor-based technologies to strengthen and improve microelectronics, for example, in energy metering and consumption. Indian startup Vervesemi develops radio frequency-based ASICs to monitor energy consumption. The integrated circuits have multiple serial-peripheral interface modes and are capable of low-drift internal voltage reference of 6 parts per million (ppm) per degree centigrade. Vervesemi’s energy metering IC finds applications in telecommunications and industrial automation, as well as for enabling the internet of things (IoT). Kapiot Diagnostics – Microelectronics Failure Analytics As the number of microelectronics-based applications continues to increase, it becomes essential to understand the causes of any failures in microelectronic chips and systems. Emerging startups develop solutions to enable potential failure analysis of microelectronics sub-assemblies, such as chip-scale packages, ball grid arrays, and micro-cracking in thin-film solar cells. Spanish startup Kapiot Diagnostics manufactures micro-imaging instruments to analyze potential failures in microelectronics. The startup’s solution uses lasers, acoustics, and holography to create depth images. The startup’s proprietary technology, Kapiography, allows for non-destructive failure analysis, inside of microstructures, in silicon materials, metalworking, or in-vivo applications. The technology is also applicable for use in the aerospace, defense, medical, and healthcare industries. What About The Other 134 Solutions? While we believe data is key to creating insights it can be easy to be overwhelmed by it.
