Segger has added support for 64bit ARMv8-A cores to its Embedded Studio IDE (integrated development environment), now covering Cortex-A53, Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A72, for example. “We see a migration to 64bit cores, even for a typical embedded application, simply because many modern SoCs and FPGAs use them,” said Segger MD Ivo Geilenbruegge. Embedded Studio includes tools and features for professional embedded C and C++ programming and development. It comes with run-time and floating-point libraries, as well as a linker, which can be used with the company’s C/C++ compiler. “With a similar look and feel on all platforms and portable projects, developers enjoy efficient development on Windows, Linux, and macOS, on Arm, Intel, and Apple Silicon,” said Segger. The debugger natively supports J-Link for automated testing and, through integration of the GDB remote protocol, enables third-party debug probe use. Licencing includes unlimited evaluation and, for educational and non-commercial purposes, free use with no restrictions in code size, features or duration.
