About Safe Surgery Systems

Safe Surgery Systems Limited (formally Intelligent Medical Microsystems Ltd) started as a privately funded company out of the Research and Development Unit at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Twelve years ago an R&D programme was started in collaboration with leading Universities to develop solutions utilising intelligent micro-systems within a healthcare environment. The company's Founding Director, David Morgan FRCS, is a Consultant Surgeon at Heartlands Hospital for 14 years and is a surgical advisor to the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA). David is also on the Local Implementation Committee of Connecting for Health (CfH), a board member of Medi-Link and on the Special Healthcare Group of AIM"UK. The company's aim is to bring to market technological solutions in a realistic timeframe that will make healthcare more efficient and safer. Being based in a hospital setting has allowed Safe Surgery Systems to gain a insight into the problems of modern healthcare resulting in an "‹end user' approach utilising advanced intelligent micro-systems. An independent Benchmark report by Health Tech has concluded that: "‹Safe Surgery Systems Ltd is the only company that has developed the system and implemented at one centre.'nnIt has also been promoted as an example of best practice in the NPSA's report "‹Right patient " Right care' and will form the basis of a case report illustrating the successful implementation of RFID in the forthcoming DTI/AIM-UK report - "Item-Attendant ICT in Healthcare"‚
