Big Data Career Notes: June 2021 Edition

Whether it’s a promotion, new company hire, or even an accolade, we’ve got the details. Check in each month for an updated list and you may even come across someone you know, or better yet, yourself! Sam Alkharrat, Ed Cardon, and Tod Weber C3 AI , an enterprise AI software provider, welcomed three new executives to its leadership team. Sam Alkharrat joined C3 AI as its president and chief revenue officer. He will lead the global expansion of C3 AI’s sales and customer service organizations. Lieutenant General (Retired) Ed Cardon joined C3 AI as chair of the C3 AI Federal Systems, a division of C3 AI. General Cardon will provide leadership to the group on critical national priorities, including the adoption of AI in defense and intelligence systems, cyber defense and ethical AI. Lastly, Tod Weber has joined C3 AI as its senior vice president and general manager of C3 AI Federal Systems. Weber will be responsible for C3 AI’s Federal Systems group in its mission to bring the benefits of enterprise AI to the United States federal government and associated industries. Shawn Bice Splunk Inc ., the provider of the data-to-everything platform, appointed Shawn Bice to the newly created position of president of products and technology. Bice brings decades of experience in building and leading cloud, SaaS, and data management technology enterprises. “I am excited to join the talented team at Splunk and look forward to helping Splunk’s customers along their journey to the cloud and the company advance during this next phase of growth,” said Bice. “When it comes to data, we have only scratched the surface, and there is a tremendous opportunity for customers to reimagine and accelerate their business, both in the cloud and on-premises edge. Splunk leads with a customer-centric approach and is people-centered at the heart of its business. That value system empowers Splunk’s customers and employees to transform the way we work together greatly.” Claire Bramly Teradata , the connected multi-cloud data platform for enterprise analytics, appointed Claire Bramly as its chief financial officer. Bramly will be responsible for leading the company’s financial organization, information technology, analytics and security, enterprise risk, and strategic enterprise sourcing. She spent almost 15 years at HP Inc, where her most recent role was serving as global controller. “Teradata is in the midst of exciting change and is experiencing significant growth across its business, and I am thrilled to join the team,” said Bramley. “I look forward to working with Steve and the leadership team to accelerate the company’s financial and operational performance while strengthening our competitiveness and profitability.” Amy Cappellanti-Wolf Cohesity welcomed Amy Cappellanti-Wolf as its chief human resources officer. Cappellanti-Wolf will be responsible for leading Cohesity’s workforce strategies. Before joining the company, she held HR leadership roles at Symantec Corp., Silver Spring Networks Inc, Cisco Systems Inc., Sun Microsystems, The Walt Disney Company, and PepsiCo. “I am thrilled to join Cohesity as it’s not only disrupting the data management market, but it also has a tremendous focus on values, diversity, and culture – all traits that come straight from the top,” said Cappellanti-Wolf. “Cohesity is making it easier than ever for customers around the world to manage, protect, and derive value from data. As the company enters its next phase of growth, I’m eager to bring my experience to the table, building on the strong platform of talent and performance at Cohesity.” Rajiv Dholakia and Madhan Neethiraj Privacera , a SaaS-based data security and governance platform provider, appointed Rajiv Dholakia as its vice president of products and Madhan Neethiraj as its VP of architecture. Dholakia and Neethiraj will provide leadership, strategic vision, operational execution and help oversee the continued technical innovation for Privacera’s enterprise multi-cloud data privacy and compliance solutions. Dholakia has built his career nurturing and growing businesses that focus on artificial intelligence, operating systems, and security. Neethiraj is a PMC and founding member of Apache Ranger, where he played a role in designing its policy model and policy engine and contributed to the development of multiple plugins. Shane Evans MX , the company that helps organizations connect to the world’s financial data and turn raw, unstructured data to deliver intelligent and personalized money experiences, appointed Shane Evans as its first president. Evans joined MX in 2019 as its chief revenue officer. Evans will oversee the company’s sales, partner, marketing, customer success, and advocacy organizations in the expanded role. Before joining MX, he spent five years in the sales teams at Qualtrics, developer of Qualtrics Experience Management software. Damon Fletcher DataRobot , a trusted AI technology and enablement service provider to global enterprises, welcomed Damon Fletcher as its chief financial officer. Fletcher will be responsible for DataRobot’s financial operations. Most recently, he served as the chief financial officer of Tableau. “I’ve been following DataRobot for years, and have long-admired the breadth of their platform, their focus on data-driven insights and decisions, and the game-changing results they consistently deliver to customers,” said Fletcher. “To join the DataRobot team as CFO, particularly at this moment of explosive growth for the company, is a tremendous opportunity.” Alyssa Henry and Larry Shurtz Confluent, Inc. , developer of the platform for data in motion, appointed Alyssa Henry to its board of directors, and Larry Shurtz was appointed as its chief revenue officer. Henry has served as seller lead for Square, Inc., a software, hardware, and financial services provider for small businesses and individuals. Shurtz has more than 25 years of experience in the technology and enterprise software industry, leading both enterprise and commercial go-to-market organizations. His most recent role was at Salesforce, where he was the executive vice president of enterprise for North America. Shane Johnson Database industry vendor FairCom appointed Shane Johnson as its head of marketing. Johnson brings more than 20 years of experience in database and middleware marketing. He joins FairCom from MariaDB Corp., where he launched MariaDB Platform and SkySQL, and Couchbase. “I was drawn to FairCom because the company recognizes the need for databases to evolve in the wake of significant changes to application development, architecture and deployment practices. Quite simply, FairCom is reimagining the role of databases in a world of edge computing, microservices and the cloud, and FairCom is doing it by building on core database technology with a long history of proven unparalleled reliability,” said Johnson. “I couldn’t be more excited about the product roadmap and vision, and I can’t wait to share it with the rest of the world.” Michael Kratsios Scale AI Inc. , a company that accelerates the development of AI applications by helping machine learning teams generate high-quality ground truth data, appointed the former Acting Under Secretary of Defense Michael Kratsios as its managing director. Prior to Kratsios’s appointment to the US Department of Defense, he held the role of chief technology officer of the United States at the White House from 2017 to 2021. Before his tenure at the White House, he spent seven years at investment management company Thiel Capital LLC. Chris Lobdell GoodData welcomed Chris Lobdell as its chief revenue officer, where his responsibilities include scaling the company’s sales and client success organizations. Lobdell brings 22 years of sales and technical leadership experience to GoodData. Most recently, he served as vice president of sales for Salesforce’s data and identity solutions division. “I’ve seen too many companies struggle to derive value from the monolithic, batch-oriented BI tools of yesterday. We finally see a proliferation of affordable cloud solutions, and the need for real-time data analytics has never been more pronounced,” said Lobdell. “GoodData has only scratched the surface when it comes to its market potential. Given the company’s decade-long experience and leading cloud technology, I’m excited about the unique position we are in to drive the shift towards real-time, secure, scalable access to data. My passion lies in helping organizations take back control of their data, and I’m thrilled to join a company that shares my mission.” Natália MacQueen and Rupert Clifford-Brown Dataiku , the developer of an enterprise AI platform, appointed Natália MacQueen and Rupert Clifford-Brown as regional vice presidents based out of Dataiku’s London headquarters. MacQueen and Clifford-Brown will help to nurture and grow the company’s customer base in the UK and Ireland. MacQueen joined Dataiku from Gartner in the U.S., where she most recently led the Invest division in Silicon Valley for the West and Central states and Canada. Clifford-Brown joined the company from Automation Anywhere, where he led the UK and Ireland go-to-market teams. Jonathan Maltos Qumulo , a high-performance file data platform provider, welcomed Jonathan Maltos as its vice president of people. Maltos will be responsible for expanding global hiring and spearheading employee engagement and development initiatives. He will also play a key role in accelerating the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. “I look forward to building upon the incredible culture and people team that already exist within Qumulo,” said Maltos. “Qumulons are passionate – they like rolling up their sleeves to build a great company, a great culture and a great product. My interest in joining the team was immediate because these are things I’m also very passionate about. I’m thrilled to start my next chapter at such a mission-driven company.” Lillian Reaume Rubrik , the cloud data management company, welcomed Lillian Reaume as its chief people officer. Reaume will be responsible’s for Rubrik’s people organization, including culture and engagement, talent management, learning and development and diversity, equity and inclusion. “We’re at a unique point in time where we have the ability to embrace the tremendous change we’ve experienced over the last year as an opportunity, both as we think about the future of work and how we create a truly inclusive environment,” said Reaume. “I’ve been truly impressed with the emphasis the executive team places on its people, company values, and mission. I’m excited to join at this time of explosive growth, and partner with team members of all levels to ensure Rubrik continues to be a place where everyone is empowered to do their life’s best work.” Suresh Sathyamurthy SingleStore appointed Suresh Sathyamurthy as its senior vice president of growth and marketing. Sathyamurthy will be responsible for SingleStore’s marketing and product-led growth initiatives. He joined SingleStore after serving top marketing and product management roles at tech industry companies Dell EMC, Microsoft and Palo Alto Networks. “I am excited to join SingleStore at this pivotal time in its trajectory,” said Sathyamurthy. “The innovators at SingleStore are enabling organizations to address problems that have never been solved before. SingleStore’s unique, high-performance unified database is the right technology at the right time, as data has never been more important to business and the world.
