GOODBYE: Quant Trading Platform Quantopian Shutters Posted on 12/17/2020 Boston-based Quantopian, Inc. is a crowd-sourced experiment in quantitative trading strategies. The platform was a project backed by both Steve Cohen (runs Point72 Asset Management) and Andreessen Horowitz. In July 2016, Point72 Ventures let Quantopian manage up to US$ 250 million of Cohen’s capital. Launched in 2011, Quantopian tests algorithmic strategies and once boasted over 300,000 users testing different quant strategies. Quantopian was ranked #98 on Forbes’ 2014 “List of America’s Most Promising Companies.” Quantopian shut down paper trading in 2019. The company decided to shut down the platform in October 2020. Quantopian Chief Executive Officer John Fawcett left to work for Robinhood. Quantopian had venture backing from Point72, Bessemer Venture Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Khosla Ventures, and Spark Capital.
