Canada.ca News release Today, Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan—Woodbridge, visited Pliteq Inc., a manufacturer of acoustic vibration and sound control products made with recycled rubber from used vehicle tires, to see first-hand the new 150,000-square foot facility in Vaughan. $3.8-million contribution for expansion, scale-up, and creation of 62 jobs December 17, 2018 – Vaughan, Ontario Today, Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan—Woodbridge, visited Pliteq Inc., a manufacturer of acoustic vibration and sound control products made with recycled rubber from used vehicle tires, to see first-hand the new 150,000-square-foot facility in Vaughan. FedDev Ontario contributed $3.8 million toward the expansion project, which allowed Pliteq Inc. to acquire advanced production equipment and adopt new manufacturing activities that boost productivity. Products are now manufactured in-house, instead of being outsourced to other countries. In addition, Pliteq Inc. created 62 skilled jobs. Pliteq Inc. has used 15,000 tons of recycled rubber (approximately three million tires) in this first year of operations, and expects to scale up to 30,000 tons annually by 2021. This translates to approximately six million tires per year that are being diverted from landfills. Quick facts Pliteq Inc., established in 2006 and headquartered in Toronto, is an innovative engineering company dedicated to the design, development and manufacturing of products to solve noise and vibration issues, as well as floor coverings for fitness and athletics, using rubber from recycled car tires. FedDev Ontario's repayable contribution has leveraged $25.36 million from private sector and other government investment. This project helps strengthen the supply chain in southern Ontario, as Pliteq Inc. expects to use $11 million in supplies and services annually from local suppliers to operate the new facility. FedDev Ontario is now accepting new projects, using a single application form, through three simplified funding streams that have been designed to meet the needs of innovators and job creators.
