The round was led by Ojas Venture Partners, set up by Infosys co-founder NS Raghavan and joined by SOS Ventures from China and Vermont based angel investor Ty Danco. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Play140 was founded by former Techstars Boston Managing Director Shawn Broderick last year. Aside from a WebInno presentation back in September Play140 has certainly been under the radar. From their website it looks like the company now has three Twitter based games with one more coming out soon. Play140 is certainly taking a unique approach to mobile and social gaming by essentially taking a step backwards. Instead of focusing on the smartphone market and have the latest and greatest technology or application, Play140 solely relies on text messages and can be easily used by features phones. The SMS text based gaming had to be the attraction for the international investors. China and India both have enormous populations that use SMS heavily.
