Tweet MUNICH, Germany Semiconductor manufacturing equipment provider Carl Zeiss SMT (Jena, Germany) has announced to acquire Pixer Technology (Karmiel, Israel). With the move, Zeiss intends to strengthen its position in the highly competitive markets for lithography tools and photomask quality assurance tools. Pixer Technology, a 2003 spin-off of UC Laser, manufactures systems that allow to correct illumination defects in photomasks used for chip production and to detect deterioration of the quality of these photomasks. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2008. "The acquisition of Pixar is a further step towards strengthening our innovation leadership in the long term and therefore also safeguarding our growth", explained Hermann Gerlinger, CEO of Carl Zeiss SMT. Frank P. Averdung, Managing Director of the company's SMS division added that Pixar will offer new technical possibilities for its business. SMS is producing a photomask repair tool. "Pixer is a perfect match for our existing product lines and system solutions," Averdung said.
