March 1, 2023 AMD has released new chipset drivers (5.01.03.0005) for Ryzen 7000X3D processors powered by 3D V-Cache technology. X3D processors will be able to automatically optimize performance based on workload. The updated chipset driver offered by the Reds includes improvements so that the kernels can be used efficiently by the Windows operating system. Thanks to the drivers, the cores can be dynamically allocated to the tasks. In other words, if the workload is cache sensitive, the OS will prioritize cores with 3D V-Cache. If the software used makes more use of the frequency, cores that can go up to high frequency will also be selected. The chip designer says this feature is driver-controlled, but can be changed manually from the BIOS. In other words, users will be able to choose between “cache” and “frequency” according to their preferences. AMD also stated that the same drivers will have the PPM Provisioning File Driver. This feature will dynamically allocate in-kernel CCX with 3D V-Cache and put unused CCX to sleep. If more threads are needed, CCX without 3D V-Cache will also be enabled. Both features will provide performance gains depending on the workload. However, the main purpose of the technologies is to increase the game performance.
