JHVEPhoto/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Paymentus Holdings (NYSE: PAY ) stock gapped down 5% in Monday premarket trading after Baird analyst David Koning downgraded the provider of cloud-based bill payment technology and solutions to Neutral from Outperform. With the stock surging nearly 100% year-to-date, its valuation has ramped up, trading at more than six times 2024 estimated revenue, and "it may be tougher for a big incremental move from here," Koning wrote in a note. That, in turn, makes the risk-reward profile more balanced, he added. SA's Quant system gave PAY a Valuation Grade of "F," with some of the poorest marks in price-to-earnings, price-to-book and enterprise value-to-EBITDA. In addition, "key elements of our thesis have played out (energy inflation has waned, incremental EBITDA margins have remained high, stock comp has been added back to adjusted EPS, and the stock has rallied)." The Neutral rating aligns with the Quant rating of Hold and diverges from the average sell-side analyst rating of Buy.
