Exclusive: Oyster makes its global hiring platform accessible to anyone

Nov 6, 2023

Exclusive: Oyster makes its global hiring platform accessible to anyone SHARE Oyster HR Inc. , the developer of a platform for hiring talent across the globe, today is making its software available as an embedded function and accessible through an application programming interface. It’s also announcing integrations with Zapier Inc.’s application integration platform, Personio SE & Co. KG’s human resources software suite and Salesforce Inc.’s Slack collaboration platform. Oyster simplifies the time and paperwork involved with hiring and employing people in multiple countries. It recruits and hires according to a client’s specifications, handles all the ministries of paperwork and ensures compliance with local regulations and practices. The company primarily does business with technology firms. The platform fills a need that Chief Operating Officer Mark Frein said few of its clients want to tackle on their own. “The customers, generally speaking, haven’t wanted to get into this business at all,” he said. “If I’m a 100-person startup in Austin, I don’t want to think about the legalities of hiring in Portugal or the Philippines. They seek an employer like ours to offload the details.” Oyster does business in 180 countries and employs about 6,000 contractors on behalf of more than 1,100 clients. Oyster Embedded lets recruiting firms and human resources organizations access Oyster’s hiring, payroll and rewards software from within their own applications. They can use no-code, customizable webflows to integrate with the look and feel of their platforms with pre-populated data. The Oyster API provides an additional level of customization by making it possible for partners to tailor functionality to their needs. For example, they can move data from Oyster to an internal human resource information system, send payroll data to a preferred payment processor and automate workflows for uses such as expense reporting and vacation tracking. “The API is completely headless,” said Senior Product Director Matteo Bordin. “The look and feel can be customized to match what our partners are doing.” Embedding is less costly, he said, but also less flexible. Co-founded by Lebanese refugee Tony Jamous, Oyster has built altruism into its culture, Frein said. “Deep in our DNA is making it possible for people all over the world to find talent in the tech sector,” he said. “We’re all about making sure people all over the world have the opportunity to work for the tech sector. That’s about ensuring as many companies as possible have the tools and the workflows.” Customers who adopt either the embedded or API option become Oyster customers at the published rate of $29 per month for managing contractors and $499 per month for full-time employees. The company has raised $224 million in venture funding.
