Meridian expands its revenue cycle management and business intelligence offerings to physician groups
Meridian Medical Management, a portfolio company of The Gores Group and a leading provider of revenue cycle management and system integration services, announced recently its acquisition of Origin Healthcare Solutions. The acquisition of Origin augments Meridian’s revenue cycle management (RCM), electronic health record (EHR) and integration solutions with a broader range of supported technology platforms and added depth around business intelligence and analytics for healthcare providers. The combination of Meridian and Origin provides over 40,000 healthcare providers nationwide with a comprehensive set of software and services, including full RCM, EHR, medical coding, technology implementation and support as well as in-depth business intelligence. “Origin is a critical addition to the Meridian portfolio, providing a comprehensive range of revenue cycle and analytics services to our clients through more strategic clinical and financial reporting and business insights,” said Rob Gontarek, CEO of Meridian. “This enables our combined client base to not only reap the expertise of proven RCM technology but also better manage population health and make use of big data—both of which are critical to business and financial success as healthcare continues to evolve.”

Origin Healthcare Solutions announced that its Electronic Health Record        (EHR), EMRge™ 8.0, is 2011/2012 compliant, and was certified as a        Complete EHR on January 13, 2011 by the Certification Commission for        Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an ONC-ATCB, in accordance with        the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the        Secretary of Health and Human Services. ONC-ATCB certification is        important because it enables eligible healthcare providers to qualify        for the first step in receiving incentive funding from the Federal        Government under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009        (ARRA). Origin’s EHR suite, EMRge™ 8.0, can support all eligible healthcare        professionals efforts to achieve meaningful use goals and objectives. The EHR system capabilities required for certification are currently        built into the product including a portal to enable and enhance patient        communications, as well as e-prescribing capabilities to increase        efficiencies and patient safety. EHR certification is part of an initiative undertaken by Congress and        President Obama that created new incentive payment programs to assist        healthcare providers as they transition from paper-based medical records        to EHRs. Eligible healthcare providers participating in Medicare and        Medicaid programs who implement EHR systems that meet ONC criteria can        receive incentive payments of as much as $44,000 per physician, per year        if they implement certified technology by 2012. Healthcare providers who        do not comply with meaningful use provisions by 2015 face financial        penalties of decreased reimbursement.
