Setback 08.05.2023 Optimo Medical was one of Switzerland's most promising companies in the digital health sector. Now the start-up is in liquidation. Optimo Medical started out to support a superior clinical outcome of eye surgery. The CE-certified and clinically validated flagship product, Optimeyes, relied on accurate eye measurements to create a digital copy of the patient’s eye inside the computer. With this so-called digital twin, the software then carries out a virtual eye surgery and, prior to the actual surgery, calculates the optimal parameters for each individual eye. Founded in 2015, the Biel/Bienne-based digital health start-up won numerous prizes. In 2021 it signed a first commercial agreement and closed a growth funding round of CHF 1.8 million. Recently, however, the Optimo Medical AG board of directors has decided to discontinue business activities for strategic reasons and to voluntarily liquidate the company. According to an announcement on the website, as many of the assets, IP and software built up over the years should continue to benefit patients and live on in a new context. (Stefan Kyora)
