Civica acquires MDM specialist VisionWare
May 29, 2018
Civica has acquired Glasgow-based master data management (MDM) specialist and former Little British Battler VisionWare Ltd for an undisclosed fee. This is the third acquisition Civica has made since it was acquired by Partners Group in July last year. It follows the acquisition of Nationwide Retail Systems earlier this month (see Civica buys NRS to expand payments business ) and OneStep Solutions in February (see Civica takes OneStep forward ). When we spoke to Partners Group last year, indications were that Civica would ramp up its M&A activity under its new owner (see Partners Group: what next for Civica? ). In the four years under previous owners, OMERS, Civica made 12 acquisitions. VisionWare has carved out a niche in MDM solutions for local government and healthcare, which has allowed it to compete with big players in this space e.g. IBM, Oracle and SAP. Its products and services are design to allow organisations to break down data silos and create a more complete, single view of their customers and citizens. It also provides enterprise master patient index (EMPI) tools to help healthcare organisations identify and match patient records stored across multiple databases. Customers include North Lanarkshire Council, BUPA, Mecklenburg County in California, and Premera Blue Cross, the largest health plan across the states of Washington and Alaska. Civica already has experience of working with Visionware through its strategic partnership with Hull City Council. Civica’s software and services were combined with VisionWare’s MultiVue MDM solution to create a more personalised service for citizens (see Civica helps Hull with digital transformation ). The company is a good fit with Civica, which broadens its capabilities in its core markets and builds on the development of its Civica Digital division. It should allow the business to assist its public sector customers more effectively in the management of data, improving efficiency and driving citizen self-serve.
