This Business Owner Shares Her Top Tips For Raising Capital For Your Company

Dec 15, 2021

Dr. Ashleigh Kennedy is an experienced neurophysiological scientist and entrepreneur who has a history of working in the wearable technology industry. Ashleigh’s father was a professional football player, and Ashleigh herself is an elite athlete. Through experience, Ashleigh has witnessed the impact of concussions that have had on her friends and colleagues, and recently, herself. Wanting to understand and educate others on the severity of concussions, Ashleigh focused her education studying the brain and human performance to offer better and safer solutions to those suffering from concussions. Dr. Ashleigh Kennedy Valberg Imaging As a result, Ashleigh founded Neurovine , a digital health startup business to improve concussion recovery through portable EEG technology with a mobile app. Through this innovative technology, Neurovine can provide a window into concussion patients' brain health to view their recovery progress and help quicken that recovery. Through her own concussion experience, Ashleigh had first-hand use of her product, which allowed her to make tweaks and adjustments to increase the product's comfort level and overall effectiveness. Ashleigh is proud to attract top-notch experts in the field because her company is deeply values-based. Neurovine has attracted top talent and an incredible technical team of those who have also been touched with concussions. There was a time when little was known about concussions, concussion patients were subjectively diagnosed, and recovery guidelines were unclear. Ashleigh feels good about the work she and her team are doing to advance the understanding of concussions. MORE FOR YOU Ashleigh shares with you her tips for women raising capital: 1. You’re the expert in your space When seeking funding and presenting to potential investors, it is essential to go into the fundraising round believing in that. You are responsible for selling your product idea to investors, and if you don’t believe in it, neither will they. 2. Check your mindset Are you in positive mind space, or are you subconsciously holding yourself back in your business? Knowing where you are in your mindset will help you overcome obstacles and grow your business with ease. 3. You need to know your numbers inside and out Understanding the financial information in your business and financial projections in every scenario adds credibility to your case when potential investors question you. Knowing your numbers in your business is vital for the business's financial success, so don’t underestimate the value. 4. Seek guidance and support Many businesswomen have walked before you and would be happy to mentor and advise you on the process of a successful capital raise. Seek out mentors and advisors to build up your knowledge base. 5. Have the best support systems in place As a business owner and a mother, the two jobs offer conflicting needs. When you build a company and raise a family, it can feel overwhelming. Ashleigh made a list of what only she could provide for both her family and her company and anything else that didn’t make that list, and she delegated responsibilities. The bottom line is that it takes a village to create a business that impacts others, and sometimes that includes financial support. If you are running your business and need to search out investors to support your business, stay confident and believe in your product. Above all, persevere when things get tough.
