OpenTable buys mobile personalization restaurants company Ness

The deal is worth around $17.3 million. “We’re thrilled to welcome Ness to the OpenTable family,” stated Joseph Essas, Chief Technology Officer of OpenTable. “The Ness team is as passionate about restaurants and helping people find the perfect table as we are, and we have tremendous respect for their talented team of data scientists, engineers and experience designers. We’re looking forward to leveraging the Ness team’s expertise to enrich the experience for diners and deepen the relationship between restaurants and their guests.” Ness will enable OpenTable to deliver a richer experience for dinners and provide insights to a restaurant’s customers. This acquisition supports OpenTable’s focus on continuing the enhancement on the ways that diners discover and book tables. Eleven of Ness’ team members will be joining OpenTable at their offices in San Francisco. The Ness app and website will be shutdown.
