NameSilo Technologies reports Q1 results

The RaidForums hacking forum has gone through a turbulent week, with its website now forced through a mirror domain after a government filed a legal request with their registrar. Last week, the popular hacking forum suddenly stopped working, leading people to wonder if law enforcement seized the site. However, it was soon back up on a mirror domain with an announcement from the site's owner that explained the outages were caused by a reluctance of their new registrar, NameSilo, to ignore the large number of government reports that regularly target the platform. ​

According to the RaidForums admin known as 'Omnipotent,' NameSilo received a report from a certain government and proceeded to deactivate the website owner's account immediately. This forced the platform to use a mirror until the main domain could be transferred back to the old registrar, CloudFlare, which can't take place until October 30th at the earliest. Raidforums is a clearnet site that lets users share, sell, and buy almost any data they want, including stolen data. This clearly doesn't resonate well with entities that suffer large-scale exposures or copyright infringement damages from what users post on the forum, so a deluge of takedown requests is common for the hacking forum. Data breach expert "Dissent Doe" was told by the site owner that the report which resulted in their account entering a "client hold" status came from the Brazilian government. The Brazilian government may have objected to a recent post where threat actors offered the Serasa Experian data for purchase. Still, considering the large number of new threads published there each day, it may have been an older post. User offering sensitive data of Brazilian citizens for sale on the platform
The RaidForums owner claimed they moved from CloudFlare to NameSilo to strengthen its OpSec, and this was supposed to be a temporary, transitional step. However, because domains can only be transferred once every 60 days, waiting until October 30th, 2021, is now mandatory. Recently, RaidForums blundered by  accidentally exposing internal pages  meant to be accessed by staff members only. While no sensitive or personally identifiable data were leaked in this incident, this was a careless mistake that exposed the practices of the forum staff. Related Articles:

You don’t have to pay for a domain name. In fact, you can even get a .com domain for free. Lots of service providers out there offer a free domain, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should go with that particular option. Be selective. Nine times out of ten, it’s better to get your domain name from a domain registrar and your hosting from a web hosting provider. But there are exceptions to this rule. If it’s your first time buying a domain and starting a website, it might be easier to bundle services under one roof. In this case, go with Bluehost . Bluehost is an industry leader in the web hosting space, and they’ll give you a free domain for one year. Trick #2: Ignore Small Price Differences
As you’re checking out different options for domain registration, you’ll likely notice some price differences between one domain registrar and another. NameSilo delivered its second quarter 2020 results on September 1, posting revenue up 9.1 per cent year-over-year to $7.6 million with a customer retention rate of about 87 per cent. Adjusted EBITDA for the Q2 was $150,766 compared to $663,183 million a year ago, while total booking went down about half a million dollars year-over-year to $7.6 million. In the quarterly comments, CEO Paul Andreola emphasized the fact that companies worldwide are having to refocus their efforts to online commerce as a result of the pandemic, which has led to more business for NameSilo. “It’s more imperative now than ever before that businesses and people around the world be connected, and we at NameSilo are working to provide them with the flexible tools they need to ensure that both their businesses and daily lives can continue to grow and thrive,” Andreola wrote in a press release. “Our business reflects this with Q2 providing another quarter of NameSilo LLC revenue growth and our investment portfolio seeing substantial gains and has grown to record levels.”
NameSilo’s share price has seen its ups and downs in recent years, with the stock gaining 27 per cent in 2019 but currently down 55 per cent in 2020. URL has been in the low $0.20 range for about the past two months. But McWhirter said it’s likely a new financing round has caused the stock to drop recently. “I spoke to management recently. They’re in the midst of doing a financing and the stock has drifted off in price,” said McWhirter, president of Selective Asset Management, who spoke to BNN Bloomberg on Friday. “I think it's still a very attractive at this point.” “They have high recurring revenue and they’ve added additional products to their product mix. The disappointment is that the new product mix has not had as much uptake as they had expected. They hope to improve that in the coming months,” McWhirter said. “I think that the stock being depressed because of the potential overhang of that financing provides a good entry opportunity,” McWhirter said. Over the second quarter (ended June 30), NameSilo added domain brokerage platform NameLot Brokerage and drop catching service Catch.Club in beta, while earlier in the year, the company launched web hosting, email and SSL certification as value-add offerings.
