UAE-based fintech firm Spades, which is disrupting mobile payments in the MENA region through a web-based dine-in app for restaurants and customers, raised $2.5 million in funding from angel investors where prominent European business angels, such as Thibaud Elzière, the founder of Fotolia & eFounders; Eduardo Ronzano, the founder of KelDoc and managing partner of Secret Fund; as well as Yan Hascoet, Othmane Bouhlal, and Omar Benmoussa, the founders of Chauffeur Privé – Kapten – which was acquired by Free Now also participated. Executives with leadership roles at global payment service providers such as Adyen, Visa, and Mastercard, as well as cloud kitchens and multiple hospitality houses in the Middle East, support the Spades team. In its first 12 weeks, the fintech payment startup has signed over 150 restaurants and launched with major UAE brands such as Nola, Couqley, Alaca, and The Sum of Us. This year, the company is rapidly expanding and hiring for a wide range of positions to support its expansion in the GCC and beyond.
