Founded in 2004, μ-bond develops a two-component bone cement COOL, which per the company avoids the main drawbacks of the products on the market.μ-bond based on years of clinical and laboratory experience with biomaterials by Prof. (UH), Dr. rer. nat. Wolf-Dieter M¼ller and his team. The underlying research began in 1998 at the Charite. The COOL-bone cement is a two component system consisting of a liquid and a solid phase. The liquid phase (component 1) consists of dissolved s¤urezahlmodifiziertem polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). The powder (component 2) is a mixture of different bioceramics different grain sizes and a metal oxide (MeO), which serves as a filler and dye. With the involvement of divalent metal ions and the Biokeramikpulvern forms together with the dissolved acid value of the modified PMMA bone cement-COOL as in the adjacent figure schematically. Thus, a sufficient strength, which improves the biocompatibility of the release of substances needed for bone formation. To adjust the suitable pore size and the calcium content of the composition can be varied bioceramics under patent protection. This results in different mixing ratios. Thus could COOL-bone cement to the specifications of various orthopedic applications to be adapted accordingly.
