Motorola Mobility is a technology and telecom hardware company whose portfolio includes converged mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets; wireless accessories; end-to-end video and data delivery; and management solutions, including set-tops and data-access devices.Motorola Mobility is formerly the wireless handset and cable equipment business entity of Motorola. It was spun off from Motorola Inc., which changed its name to Motorola Solutions, on Jan. 4, 2011. Motorola Solutions Inc. trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol MSI, and Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. trades on the NYSE under the ticker symbol MMI.In August 2011, Google offered to acquire Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share in cash, or a total of about $11 billion, a premium of 63% to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies. Per Google, the acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business. The acquisition of Motorola Mobility closed on May 2012. The valuation of Motorola Mobility was $12.5 billion. In June 2013, Motorola Mobility was acquired by ARRIS Group. The valuation of Motorola Mobility was $2.2 billion. Other terms of the deal were not released.
