Mike is a Partner of Shamrock Capital Advisors. He currently serves as a director of the Giant Creative/Strategy, Mojiva, INgrooves, and Harlem Globetrotters International. Previously, Mike served on the boards of Media Storm and Modern Luxury Media. Prior to joining Shamrock, Mike was an Associate and Analyst at Putnam Lovell Securities focusing on mergers and acquisitions in the financial services industry.
Mike graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management as a Venture Fellow.
Mr. Perlis joined Forbes from SoftBank Capital, where he served as a General Partner. Before joining SoftBank, he served as President and CEO of Ziff-Davis Publishing until its sale in 2000. Earlier in his career, Mr. Perlis served as Publisher of GQ, President of the Playboy Publishing Group, Publisher of Runner’s World and Men’s Health, and Chairman and CEO of IDG Peterborough.
He began his career in media as the co-founder of New England Publications in Camden, Maine. Mr. Perlis currently serves on the boards of BuzzFeed and Mojiva as well as the Association of Magazine Media (MPA) and the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). He served on the board and was chairman of Associated Content before its sale to Yahoo!.
Previous board observer positions include GSI Commerce (sold to eBay), The Huffington Post (sold to AOL) and KickApps (sold to KIT digital). He is on the Board of Advisors of the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and is a trustee of Outward Bound.Before joining Ziff-Davis, Mr. Perlis was President at TVSM from 1996 to 1998, the largest publisher of customized television listings and guidance in print and on-line. He directed all strategy and operations, culminating in the sale of the company to NewsCorp.
From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Perlis was the President of the Playboy Publishing Group, overseeing all publishing and related product activity worldwide. The Playboy brand was actively exported overseas during these years, resulting in operations in 17 countries. He also was responsible for the launch of the Playboy new media initiative (playboy.com) and managed the companyÃ¯Â¿Â½s direct marketing businesses.
Mr. Perlis was previously the Chairman and CEO of IDG Peterborough, Publisher of GentlemenÃ¯Â¿Â½s Quarterly and built the Rodale Active Sports Network (including the founding of MenÃ¯Â¿Â½s Health & Women's Health, and the acquisition of RunnerÃ¯Â¿Â½s World). He began his career in media as the co-founder of New England Publications in Camden, Maine.
Mr. Perlis serves on the board, and is Chairman, of Associated Content. He also serves on the boards of Goodmail Systems, Sportnet, and Buzzfeed and is a board observer of several companies, including Huffington Post.com, VoodooVox, and KickApps. Mr. Perlis served on the boards of Enpocket (sold to Nokia), Industry Brains (sold to Marchex), Zinio (sold to Gilvest), World Publications (sold to Bonnier) and PalTalk (sold back to management). All transactions took place in 2006-2009. Mr. Perlis is a highly respected organizational and marketing professional and is a regular speaker at media and related industry gatherings.
Mr. Perlis is a graduate of Syracuse University. He also serves on the board of the Newhouse School of Public Communications and is a trustee of Outward Bound.
Will is a Shamrock Capital Advisors Partner with over 15 years of media, entertainment, and communications investment experience. Will currently serves as a director of Giant Creative/Strategy, MarketCast, Learfield Communications, and Mojiva. Previously, he served on the boards of K2 Towers, Media Storm, TeleGuam Holdings, LifeStage Media Group, and PRN before Shamrock exited these investments. Will is also a board member of the US Lacrosse Foundation, a non-profit organization that operates in support of US Lacrosse, the sport’s national governing body. He is also a former board member of the Los Angeles Chapter of Dartmouth Alumni Association and the co-founder of the UCLA Anderson Venture Capital/Private Equity Alumni Group. Prior to joining Shamrock in 1998, Will was an investment banker in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Smith Barney, Inc.
