Michael Sheffield Senior Staff writerMemphis Business Journal Michael Sheffield Senior Staff writerMemphis Business Journal Dr. Glen Fenter Courtesy of GMAC Workforce Glen Fenter , president of the Greater Memphis Alliance for a Competitive (GMAC) Workforce, has been named 2015's Person of the Year by Southern Business & Development . Southern Business & Development recognizes individuals for the annual award based on outstanding contributions to the practice of economic development in the region. Dr. Glen Fenter Courtesy of GMAC Workforce Fenter was previously president of Mid-South Community College and personally oversaw the school’s merger with Arkansas State University , which was finalized in January. During his time as president of the college, the school evolved from being on the verge of closing to a $100 million campus. Fenter was recognized for “developing regional approaches to meeting current and future educational and training requirements through the creation of career pathways that begin with secondary education and extend through the provision of economically targeted baccalaureate degrees.” Fenter officially retired from the college July 1. He was selected to lead GMAC Workforce when the organization was formed in Nov. 2014. He is currently working with GMAC Workforce to create a pipeline of skilled workers by aligning K-12 and higher education programs exactly with employer needs in the Memphis region, which includes eastern Arkansas and north Mississippi.
